November 29, 201114 yr Hi guys,Can someone recommend me a good GPS to use with my a/c add-ons? The FSX GPS doesn't seem to launch with add-ons a/c isn't it ? I'd like one that has (of course a moving map), and that is capable of showing airports' runways and ILS "feathers."I just purchased something called GPS from FSwidgets, but it is actually a piece of.... no good! I hate to burn $ like that. Thanks everyone.Johnny
November 29, 201114 yr The FSX standard GPS show ILS feathers. But if you want the real-deal Garmin GNS 430 & 530W GPS gauges, you can get them from Reality XP.Cheers,- jahman.

And it shows everything you need, really. (The default GPS isn't as bad as some think it is.) Any other map you will buy will also be a popup (or even worse, force you to run FSX in windowed mode!) so...

December 1, 201114 yr Go to the SimObjects/Airplanes folder, go to the folder of an FSX standard aircraft (to make sure it uses the standard Garmin GS500 GPS) and take a look at the panel.cfg file (open it with notepad.exe).Take a look at the contents of the file and see if you can make any sense of it (it's not too hard).Always make a copy of the original before making any changes.Cheers,- jahman.
December 1, 201114 yr Anyone ?Open the panel.cfg (with for instance Notepad) of the plane you want to add the GPS to. You will see various entries beginning with [Window##] where ## is a number. You can either 1. add the following lines after the last [Windows##] entry and give it the appropriate number (so if there are 5 entries, name this one [Windows06]) or 2. you can replace one of the entries with this one (quite often there is a window you never really use or maybe there are too many windows already in which case you HAVE to replace one). After adding these lines to the cfg you should also add 'Window##=GPS' in the 'Windows Titles-list that usually is at the top of the cfg (obviously with the right number again).[Window##]size_mm=456,378window_size=0.5position=8BACKGROUND_COLOR=0,0,0VISIBLE=1ident=GPS_PANELgauge00=fs9gps!gps_500, 0, 0 That's it!BTW If you don't like the size or position of the window, simply experiment a little with the 'window_size' and 'position' entries.

Well, as they say: "If you know, you know..if you don't, you simply don"t." So, why beat around the bush to waste valuable time. J Van E, thank you for your help-- THIS WORKS ! (catching flies in the dark doesn't) --- For those of you who own the payware "moving maps," can it be launch within a FULL WINDOW MODE, or is it only on "windowed mode? Which payware do you recommend?
