Why no scenic library choice? FS2004

Featured Replies

Hi all,Is there some reason I can't see a library choice under main menu->options->settings in FS2004? I have admistrative privleges in Windows. I can play with the scenery.cfg file if I have to. I want to place a MyScenery folder probably in the Addon Sceneryfolder. If I read right this is best done thru the scenery library choice (can't find) in FS2004. The FS help under "S" says options->settings->library but as I said I get no such choice.I have posted this question once before but never could find the post or an answer. This time i will be sure to check the follow up box!Larry Costa

The reason is that FS2k4 doesn't allow 'on the fly' scenery editing. Go back to the main FS screen, and then click on the left side 'settings' and in the corner you will see the Scenery Library box.

Thanks for the answer Fred,I have FS open and can only reach SETTINGS thru main menu OPTIONS then click settings. Get choices of GENERAL, DISPLAY,ETC. but no library choice. I tried left and right clicks on left edge of main window and settings pulldown list. The help in FS saysmain->options->settings->library but I don't get a libray choice, Ideas??Larry Costa

As the above poster said you can't get there while within a flight. Quit the flight and go back to the first screen that comes up when you start FS...At the bottom you will see a button for settings. In the next screen you will find the scenery library. Once you make you changes you will have to quit FS and restart to have the changes show up.

Hi Everyone,You can look until the cows come home but you will never find the library selection from the menu bar. You must be on the main Settings page. In this case the help file is incorrect.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

Thanks a lot gents,Would you belive that I don't get a "main page"! (startup page)!I usually hate splash screens and startup sounds so some time back I either renamed or deleted a file. When my FS starts up it goes right to the default flight I saved. Your answers make a lot of sense. I will poke around and hope I don't have to reinstall FS.Not long after intial installation I purchased!! Real Scene and installed it from its CD. It wrote a bunch of files into Addon Scenery and probably others in whatever folder. It did add a lot to what I see in local western mountain scenery and dosn't seem to intefere with my own scenery.I will keep the subscription to this thread and hope that there is a way to see the opening screen in FS without reinstall.Larry Costa

The reason you get no opening screen is because you selected a flight to be your default flight. When you manage to get to the main screen, click on Select a Flight and then remove the checkmark where it states "Make this the default flight". I believe this will force the sim to open the opening screen in the future. Hope this helps.Jim Young

No that doesn't have anything to do with it. I have my own flight set up as default (based in the city I live in) and I still have the main startup selection screen. I bet there is some option in the general page which disables the startup selection screen and jumps you right into the default flight. In anycase the orginal poster should still be able to quit his flight once it has started and get back to the main startup screen....IE go to the main menu and hit End Flight or just hit the ESC key the choose End Flight...That should take him back to the main startup screen.

Thanks Jim,Unchecking the make default flight didn't really change things. But Hitting esc and exit flight gets me there. :)Will unsubscribe to this topic.Larry
