Fanda Freeware DH8C FMC Question

Featured Replies

I have the subject aircraft for FS9 and also have it merged with a Premier Aircraft Design -100 and -300 as well as the Dreamwings Q400. The documentation for the panel is outstanding in every respect except one, the FMC. I know it is not a fully functional FMC, nor is the AIRAC updateable, but there are simple functions on it that don't work for me.Just for example, on the Init Page 1/1 the is a spot to enter your Airport's Pos ID. Click on the LSK for it and I can type in the airport's ICAO, but when I hit enter the screen returns to an empty box where I can again re-enter the ICAO. It never seems to accept my entry.. I know it's in the AIRAC because when I type that ICAO on the Flightplan page it accepts it.Menu/Dep works, but what do you use if there are no SIDs available for your airport. It wants "something" in that block, but what? I've tried "0", "None", the runway again, nothing works and it won't let me go to the Arrivals page at all, yet the sketchy documentation I found said the Arr Page was functional. Finally, not FMC related. I would love to fly this aircraft on VATSIM, even with the FMC not cooperating and filing /A, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to set a squawk code if given to me by ATC. The transponder, according to the docs, emulate a Type S Transponder and there are four numbers above the TCAS control (I can turn the gizmo on, set to Alt/TA, change the range and aspect, but I cannot figure out how to change the four numbers (reading 0021 right now) to an assigned squawk code. Thanks, I would post on the Fanda Forums, but my login there is inactive and since it's inactive I cannot contact an administrator by PM (or post a reactivation request) the way the warning says to do.Randy

I'm not at my sim desk right now but lets see what i can do from memory on the first issue. On the INIT page don't type anything, just hit accept. Then go to the FPL page and enter your airport ICAO. Does it take it? Then hit Menu and see if the SIDs are there.

"frantzy"Thanks for the response. Yes, you are correct. It will take KPIH as my departure airport on the flightplan page and will take KSLC as my arrival field and it will take many, but not all of the waypoints (because of the outdated waypoints). The are no SIDs (in this outdated AIRAC) for KPIH, so I do not expect to see any SIDs listed on the departure page. What my post above was saying is that the FMC seems to want something in there anyway, even though there is nothing to put in there since there are no SIDs out of KPIH. The real issue are the arrivals into KSLC. There are STARs into KSLC, but selcting "Menu" and then clicking the LSK beside "Arr" does nothing. The screen never goes to a least of possible arrivals.Still wondering about my squawkcode. I suppose the possible solution is to load the aircraft in flightsim. Log in to VATSIM with FSInn and type .x 2200 in the chatbox and see if that will force a xpndr code change? Thanks,Randy

Hi Randy,I've got my Dash 8 fired up so hopefully I can help now. For the squawk code, I see 0000 on my transponder display. When I push the center of the button on the right, the left-most 0 blinks and I can click the outer ring of the button left or right to select the first digit. I push the center of the button again, and the next digit flashes. Does this work for you? When I put KPIH and KSLC into the flight plan and click on the departure page, like you I see no SIDs but 4 runway choices. It's ok to choose a runway but just leave the SID field blank, and then click FPL (lowest right LSK) and return to the FPL page. Does yours not allow you to leave the SID blank? For SLC, I actually do see a list of approaches (22 of them) as well as STARs into SLC. Two possible differences, I'm using the payware Pro version, and I applied the available patches from the Majestic Software site. But regarding outdated AIRAC and missing waypoints, I feel your pain. I'm trying to fly to Santa Rosa / Sonoma County (KSTS) but it doesn't seem to exist.Mikeedited to add: To me Fanda's Dash 8 has all the highs and lows of a flight sim add-on. It's a wonderfully detailed and complete simulation, particularly in the high end payware models. I have friends who fly Dash 8s for airlines and they're impressed. The developer was clearly passionate and resourceful but English might not be his native language, so the documentation can be hard to follow. And although he seems very committed to ongoing support, the effort to bring it up to "state of the art" and expand to other variants is too much for one person. Other add-ons I love have these same traits.

Mike,Thanks for that on the transponder. Works just as you described. I just loaded up at KPIH and tried it.For the KPIH to KSLC Departure/Arrival issue, Yes, I can leave the SID block blank and return to the fllightplan page. However, when I use menu and try to go to the Arrival page nothing happens. It's as if the "Arrival" LSK is dead.Let me ask you this. Are you entering just KPIH on the left, KSLC on the right of the FPL page and then going straight to "Menu/Departure" and Menu/Arrival" pages without entering any of the enroute waypoints in your flightplan page? Perhaps it is making "Menu/Arrivals" dead because I have already put in my enroute waypoints? Thanks for your help thus far. two issues solved thanks to your help. Third is really solved in a way. I can always simply manually enter the STAR waypoints. Using "Arrival" is really just a shortcut anyway. This way I can fly the AIRAC 1113 STAR I suppose. Thanks,Randy

Happy to help Randy. I can't tell you how long I struggled to figure out how to change the range ring distance on the EHSI Map view. And I still have trouble with engine start. My standard procedure has become: click Accept on the INIT page, then go to FPL page, and enter only the Origin Airport and the Destination Airport. Then I select the SIDs and STARs if applicable. Then I insert intermediate waypoints between the end of the SID and beginning of the STAR.To be honest I can't remember whether I do it this way because of something with the Dash 8. In the real world I fly a Cirrus with a Garmin GPS, and there's a rudimentary VNAV feature which works better if I enter the destination before the intermediate waypoints. So it's a habit.
