February 19, 200422 yr I am having a problem w/FS9 crashing to a black screen & then getting that infamous "Microsoft Simulator has encountered a problem" etc.It happens after I takeoff from the FS9 Non LAGO Emma Field headed south. Before I get to the hills south of the of the field, it crashes. If I takeoff on 36 & then circle around & head south over the river, it crashes as I get a little south of Emma Field. This is not the seasonal crash that some have been having as this is happening in summer & the other seasons. Even so, I did try the suggestion re/the TERRAIN.CFG tip in changing the MaskClassMap settings which did not affect the problem.I have tried deleting the fs9.cfg file, deleted various addon sceneries in the area around Emma Field that I have installed & finally resorted to uninstalling & reinstalling FS2004. Nothing I have done has fixed the crashing problem.I am running out of things to try & am open to suggestions & ideas on what might be causing this problem. Thanks,Bob AndersonWindows XP ProAMD Athlon XP2700AZUS A7N8X2.0Radeon 97001024MB DDRMaxtor 40GB & 120GB 7200rpm HDs
February 19, 200422 yr Bob.... Try disabling the scenery around that area 1 by 1. I suspect that you have 2 AFCAD2 bgl files as thats what 2 of the same field will do. Joe W.
February 19, 200422 yr Joe,When I uninstalled FS2004 & then installed it again, all my addons sceneries had to be activated again thru the Scenery Library. Before I did this, I installed Emma Field first & tried taking off from there again & still had the same problem with all the sceneries disabled. Some of the closer ones I have completely deleted & taken out.I might mention, that there are also some of the Washington area sceneries, airports & landing strips such as Dexterville, Bowerman Field. Cub Flyers Field, Elma, Easton State to name some that I have saved flights on that when I go to load the saved flight, it will come up & then after about 5 secs or so it crashes to the black screen. The ones that do this, I have completely deleted & removed from FS2004. None of this has helped the problem.Do I check the sceneries for 2 of the same AFCAD2 bgl files? Thanks for your reply.Bob Anderson
February 19, 200422 yr Bob Remove your scenery file in your addon scenery folder of FS9. This is the file that has all of your airport afcad files ie AF2_ktip.bgl.physically remove the folder to your desktop and create an empty scenery folder in its place. then start up FS9 and try your flight. If it works then your problem is an AFCAD file and you will have to add the ones in a 100 mile radius of where you are having the CTD ,one at a time. process of elimination. until you find the one causing the problem. I have had this similiar problem on 3 different occasions now and all have been bad afcad files. The GPS CTD with the Antilles project 2004 I found to be an AFCAD file and I reported it to the creators who have replaced the bad afcad and corrected the CTD problem.Try it and let us know how you made out.Don
February 19, 200422 yr Thanks Don for your suggestion. I will try that & see if it fixes the problem. Will let you know.
February 20, 200422 yr I did try removing the contents of the Addon scenery folder of FS9 & backed them up on a different drive, leaving an empty scenery folder.Tried a flight out of Emma & FS9 again crashed as before. I was hoping that your good idea would be the solution.
February 20, 200422 yr BOBDAMM would have bet that was your problem. Is this happening on all the airplanes your flying or just on one? What kind of an error message are you getting. what is the name of the dll that is crashing. (you can get this when the eror message comes up and click on details, in the next window that opens in the top right will be the name of the affected dll. usually. Your not getting a memory error are you? It has to be a plane, panel or some scenery file thats causing the problem.Don
February 20, 200422 yr Don,This problem has happened on whatever plane I am flying. After getting the black screen & then the "Microsoft Flight Simulator has encountered a problem" message. The next window ("Error Signature") shows "Error details - A fatal error has occurred". Under that is "AppName - fs9.exe", "AppVer.9.0.0.30612", "ModName: unknown", "ModVer:0.0.0.0 Offset:0000006b" The next window is the "Error Report Contents" which has all the technical information in the error report. Did not see a name of an affected dll.I am not getting a memory error message. Is there usually always a name of a affected dll in these error reports. Would they be shown where this error report specifies "ModName:unknown"?Sure appreciate your willingness to help.Bob
February 20, 200422 yr Try switching to summer. If the works, then disable Emma field and try it. There was a problem with Richards Hard winter textures. I think what the cure was, was to copy all "w" textures to another folder and rename then to "HW". Joe W.
February 20, 200422 yr Joe,I don't believe I have the "seasonal" problem as I have had the weather set for summer the whole time. Have also tried the other seasons to no avail. Even so, I did try the TERRAIN.CFG tip re/changing the MaskClassMap settings from "1" & "3" to "0". This made no change to my problem.Appreciate your reply.Bob
