February 22, 200422 yr This must be the best and most complete freeware aircraft ever! But how do you fly and navigate this craft? No disrespect to the Russians but it seems to me they have created an art form in making the simple, difficult!Basically I cannot get this aircraft to coordinate a turn with the autopilot nor have a clue how to navigate with the instruments. I've been over the documentation but still find a lot that is unclear. There is supposed to be a file around concerning the autonomic navigation system (IL-18_5.doc) but I can't locate it anywhere.Still this plane does fascinate me and therefore I would appreciate some help. Thanks,Alan
February 22, 200422 yr Join the club mate!!!!, LOL ;)Yeah, its a beauty, but us mere english speaking mortals are left out in the cold. This was discussed a while back, I managed to lay me hands on the IL-18_5.doc, and started to translate it, but to be honest I was fighting a losing battle.Maybe if a couple of guys want to "team-up" and see if together we can crack this beauty then drop me a line, [email protected] .BTW, there was an "english" panel for this released a while back, but I never did try it, it was by Captain Keith (www.simflyer.net).Maybe that'll help you outCheersDan.
February 23, 200422 yr I can see why this plane could be crewed by 5 people.I've successfully flown VFR VOR to VOR from Manchester (UK) to CDG Paris (391nm). Couldn't capture the VORs with the AP but managed good turns and level flight. Shame NAV2 doesn't work. Still, I kept dialing in frequency and the heading of each and subsequent VORs and coordinated the turns to capture the 'needle'. Managed to manually land riding the ILS into 27R. I flew at 5000 metres and 245 knots. This plane seems quite fuel hungry; I only had 358.5lbs of fuel left out of 3106lbs so I don't know how the Avsim reviewer managed to fly from Reno to Paris non-stop.From take-off to landing: 1hr 20minsQuite a challenge and very enjoyable.Alan
