higher resolution on video card

Featured Replies

I just upgraded my video card from the fx 5200 go the ATI 9600xt and I am very happy with the increase in frame rates in FS9. My only question is how do I increase the resolution greater than 1280x1024? That appears as the highest choice in the setup area. I'd like to try and run it at 1600x 1200 since the new card can handle it.My systemP4 3.0 ghz1 gig ramATI 9600 xtthanks

That's gonna depend on what your monitor is capable of running and which driver version you have. I have a 21" Sony which will run resolutions at 2048xsomething and am using the Omega drivers based on the Cat 3.10. I have all kinds of resolution selections. The one I use is 1400x1050x32. I used to run 1600x1200x32; but everything appears quite small on screen at that res and it'd chug every once in a while. Using 1280x1024 or 960 was too low of a res to use. At least for me. One day I tried 1400x1050x32 and have been hooked ever since. It's about as good as 1600x1200 from an eye candy POV; but provides better framerates with excellent image quality. It's hard to tell the difference from the 1400 and the 1600. I run IL2FB maxed in the same resolution with OpenGL. Very pleased with the look of both sims.

Like Bigshot says, the issue may be your monitor. This summer I upgraded to a 128MB ATI Radeon 9600 Pro and it delivered great framerates at 1600x1200x32, however my former monitor had a maximum refresh rate of only 60Hz at that res. Now I've got ViewSonic P95f+ 19 inch CRT Monitor which delivers 1600x1200x32 in Ultrabright mode at 85Hz. Big difference.-- WaltFlying FS2004 at 1600x1200x32Intel Pentium 4, 2.0 GHzWindows XP Pro512MB PC800 RDRAM,8100128MB ATI Radeon 9600 ProCATALYST Windows XP 3.10 video driverDirectX 9.0bViewSonic P95f+ 19 inch CRT MonitorSound Blaster Audigy2 ZSCreative I-Trigue 2.1 3300 SpeakersMS ForceFeedback 2 joystick
