I'm replying to this because I APPEAR to be one of the people sending the mydoom virus.Unfortunatly, it isn't as simple as what you're asking. Mydoom, and a few (maybe I should say a lot?) of the other new virus are "spoofing" the from address.According to Mcafee, ( http://us.mcafee.com/virusInfo/default.asp...&virus_k=100983 ) here's a few of the ways it works. Lets say you sent me a real email for any given reason. Now I have your address. Next I catch the virus. It uses it's own smtp engine to mass mail it's self. But instead of using my return address, it finds your address from the email you sent me, and makes it appear you sent the virus, even though you dont have the virus.Mydoom searches, among many other things, for .txt files with an address in it. Anyone who has downloaded any of my scenery, has a readme.txt with my email. One or more of those people get the virus, it uses my email from the readme.txt, and it appears I'm sending the little bugger to people I dont even know.I recieved at least a dozen emails with mydoom attached, which I promptly deleted, from both my inbox and deleted items after that. During it's peak, I was getting several undeliverable emails returned each day that I didn't send. The returned emails dropped (didnt include)the payload attachment in most cases.I also recieved several emails from people telling me I sent the virus to them, they deleted it, and just wanted to warn me to clean my system. I appreaciate the emails warning me I may be infected. If one does get by me and my antivirus, I'd like to know it. It's also nice to be able let that person know it didn't come from me. I don't and haven't had a virus. If there was some sort of database like you're thinking, there's a good chance someone who has a virus may be unknowingly sending it with your return address, and you'd end up on the list even though your system is clean.

Thanks for the info, it is very helpful!!! what I have done to prevent any virus or worm from using my address book, is that after the .com or international ID I put ????It's a pain to have to remove them to send an E-mail, but thought the security was worth it. Also, all those that I send attachments to, know that if the letter is not my usual signature Do Not Open!! Many Thanks Again!!!! Eddie
