Easy Micro-Stutter Fix?

Featured Replies

Please try these DX-settings if you are suffering from micro-stuttin'gitis: Set Vsync to 'auto' or 'on by default.' Then, most important, set the amount of 'pre-rendered frames to '0' or '1.' You might need to get Rivatuner at guru3d.com to do so. Right now, I use the two first mentioned settings with great success. Also, in the BIOS, set your AGP aperture to half the memory of your graphic card. Fast writes are 'enabled' over here. Generally spoken, which driver or card you use, shouldn't make much of a difference. My FlyTendo is a win2ksp4 2.5GHzXP/512MB on a nForce2 with a GF4600 running a 21" @1152x @85Hz. The OS(s) and FSs are on seperate harddrives. Currently using a Fortissimo2 soundcard, because Greg 'Soarpics' heard good things about them... Well, thanks for putting me on the track, mate! Had I not changed the soundcard, giving FS9 one last try, I wouldn't have come up with the pre-rendering frames issue. The process of exclusion... Haven't tried my Audigy2 yet, because I'm too excited and wanted to report these conclusions to you folks before. Other basic details of interest maybe are: Autogen density = sparse (higher 'hurts' above cities and produces more macro-stuts, eg. scen and atc loading simultaneously). Full DX sound acc. Sound quality in sim (still) set to 'low.' 69% AI. Default.xml renamed, use_terrain_vector_objects=0. AA=2x; Af=8x. Framerate = unlimited. Water=reflection only, scen shadows=off. Some other minor cfg tweaks. Still a standard FS9-install. As a result, those annoying micro-stutters are (almost) gone... Depending on your traffic settings, they will disappear as more and more wav-files get cached (ca.10 mins). Really, it's day and night! FS9 is great! Perhaps one could conclude, FS9 really IS better for low and slow? M$ sowith framing it exactly within the ACOF credo. Yeah, those boyz a century ago definitely were low and slow... Well done, M$! Nevertheless, I could still wack myself for not having tried this approach earlier! For now, I'm very curious and welcome your reactions. Kind regardsJaap @Soarpics, if this is something, pls feel free include it into your guide. Or, I might have missed something? I haven't taken it down to the bottom for now, as there are still some win2k/nforce2/asus issues unresolved. But can I live with the few stuts left? Absolutely! @All, feel free to do a 'comparison-taxi-around' i.e. on the KSEA apron with i.e. 'Vsync off' and 'on' and you'll most certainly notice a difference. Take your time, the sim needs about 5 mins to stabilize. Please turn ATC on. Although fps skyrockets with 'Vsync off,' fluidity seems to be better with 'Vsync on' IMHO. Just don't take a turn faster than 9 MPH. Judge with your side views too. How does the terminal 'flow' by?
