Round The World Flight.

After watching the AVSIM/Flightsim RTW race I got to thinking about having a go at a rtw flight - but nonstop. So I have departed on a nonstop flight using the Vintage Aircraft works Rutan Voyager. Unlike the original flight which was from Edwards AFB to Edwards AFB - I have opted for an equatorial flight starting and finishing at Singapore/Paya Lebar(WSAP) via overhead SEPV and HCMM.I am carrying out the flight online (VATSIM) and estimate it at about 200hrs flying time.Due to the VATSIM requirement that the pilot be available when on line it will not be posssible to do it in one coninuous go ( Anyway I have to work, sleep, eat etc) so I am doing a few hours at a tiome and saving the flight for resumption later. At the present time I have completed 22.5 hour over about 4 days and covered approx 3600 miles travelling due East at an average speed of about 160 knots and ,unlike the original flight which flew mostly at medium altitudes( 8 - 10000ft) I have been finding better winds at 30000ft( I know - yes I need oxygen etc - allow me a little licence). My questions are - Has anyone else tried this?Does anyone have any advice as to best altitudes for fuel ecomomy ?( it's going to be touch and go whether I make it all the way with the available fuel- right now we're at 83% remaining which gives a total range of about 21200 nm - just about enough). Any other advice/critism is welcomeAlso ,don't hold your breath- at the current rate of progress it'll take 3 or 4 weeks to complete this.Dave

I've never done a non-stop, but I'm now nearing the end of my second solo around the world in the F1 Golden Eagle. The first trip cost me a year to complete, this one should be done in 11 months if I complete it on schedule next week. After that, I'm planning to take "The Long Way Home", flying the realworld flight flown from 2 December 1941 to 6 January 1942 by PanAm Clipper NC16802 from San Francisco to New York via Auckland.Regular schedule would have the aircraft return to SFO from Auckland but the Japanese raid on Hawaii and the resulting Pacific war made that impossible so they took the long way around. That trip should take about half a year if there are no delays (meaning if I can fly almost every weekend one 12-24 hour trip).

Sounds good- these things do take a lot of time.I'm trying to get 4 or 5 hr a day in when I can . Luckily I can surf online etc OK whilst flying by running FS on one monitor and everything else on the other. Today tho - I'm aiming for 12 hrs(10.15 so far ) as I had the afternoon free.Came online at 1215Z and will run till around midnight.Should have mentioned I'm using FSMetar weather.Present time(2235Z) at 29000ft approx 3900miles out of Singapore.
