Saitek Pro Flight Yoke - Manual adjust

Featured Replies

Hey gang,I recently purchased the Saitek Pro Flight Yoke System (as well as the rudder pedels) to use with flight. It actually took a while (still working on it) getting used to using a yoke vice a flight stick. One thing that bothered me was the dead zone. Not sure if it's an issue with a lot of these, but I found that only for pitching the nose up (pulling back on the yoke) there was about an inch of play before it engaged. Nose down was actually engaged by something like a micron. Not noticeable in game. I went through setting after setting, trying to figure out where this dead zone was coming from. After a lot of messing around, I decided to open up my yoke and see exactly what kind of magic was happening inside... Have you ever walked to the end of a bowling lane to see how the pins really work? Well that's about it, pretty rudimentary. All I found inside the yoke were a couple of pots, couple of springs... that pretty well it. Well a little circuit board too.Very easy to do if anyone else needs to make minor manual adjustments. Turn the yoke upsidedown. Remove a dozen or so screws, there are a couple small ones around the neck, don't forget those. Once open, the guts are pretty basic. My pitch axis was the problem, so I circled the axis I worked on. You can pretty well see exactly how it works immediately just from the picture. The last picture I'm showing the pot where there is a gear, that is what adjusts the pitch signal. I simply removed the 2 screws holding the plastic piece in place, and it lifts right out. All it takes is a slight adjustment whichever direction you need to go, and then carefully line the teeth back into the other gear. You can apply power to in the unit right now, just don't touch anything, and see if the control is centered. My mechanical dead zone is now fixed, and there is even play between pitching up and down. Oh, and don't mind the globs to grease they squirt inside these... oh my God!Hope this helps anyone experiencing a similar problem.dsc05241qs.jpgdsc05242x.jpgdsc05245f.jpgCheers,Darryl
