Squares in the water?

Featured Replies

Can sombody tell me, how to get rid of these squares in the water?http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/69800.jpgIm using the setting "Extended Terrain Textures"

Short answer is, you can't get rid of it.Longer answer is: You can use default water textures (not OceanFX or similar "upgrades"), in which this effect will be little less noticable.Unfortunately it's a MS bug or some kind of software limit.

Hello. My personal experience on water squares !I do not know if it is an MS problem but i do know what caused it in my case (same water squares) and this is the graphic card's drivers. It worked the opposite for me ! I use an nVidia chipset based card (Ti 4800 SE).Installing the latest nvidia drivers these squares appeared. I uninstalled them/reinstall the older ones (sorry - i can't remember which ones works fine for me - i am at work now) and everything works fine again. Did this problem appeared after upgrading the graphic drivers or on a new graphic card ?Did it appeared after a clean fs install - the very first time you run fs ?Did it appear after some water textures installation ?I ask becouse in my case the squares didn't exist so far. So, if you run fs so far without squares and suddenly they just appear then you might can find what caused them.nikolas/athens

NikolasDo you mean the 56.72's? This is the first post I've seen that mentions water squares appearing with the new drivers so up till this point I wasn't sure that there was a connection. I noticed the same thing almost immediately after I installed the 56.72's. Many more squares appeared with these drivers than just the predictable ones which I think we're all familiar with such as Lake Michigan near Chicago. I have been using the 53.03's with my FX5900 card since they were released and have been very happy with them, so I just skipped over the intervening 56.64's ,etc. I am now back to the 53.03's and the squares have dissapeared for the most part except for the predictable ones. I also have Bill and Lynn's water textures installed. What of course comes to mind is that nVidia may have the latest 'game of the week' in mind for any improvements they now make.FS9 is no longer the hot seller. That is, Ultimate Tournament 9 or whatever, may need a driver modifification which works at odds with FS9. No hard feelings, just business. So the latest driver may not be the best driver for any particular game.
