April 9, 201214 yr This is a strange one.... Up until recently i ran FSX with acceleration and ASE2012 with no issues. Unfortunately the pc packed up so i had to purchase a new one so the process of installing flight sim stuff began... I installed FSX with only SP1 (had to leave acceleration/sp2 due to loss of vsync with AMD drivers) and then installed ASE2012. However when the texture backup is run it is aborted due to the following....'could not find file D:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator x\Texture\OceanHeight20FieldLayer1.dds'. Looking in the texture folder there are similar named dds files but nothing with a 1 at the end. So...as Pc was fairly new i decided to reinstall FSX on a fresh install of Win7 but using a different disc just in case the installation had omitted said missing texture( i have original FSX deluxe and FSX Gold). I installed SP1 and ASE2012 again but got exactly the same error!!! Now i thought ASE2012 was compatible with both SP1 or acceleration/SP2 installs of FSX-but the acceleration add on is the only real difference between my old PC and this new installation. Unfortunately if it is lack of acceleration add on that is causing this error then i will have to drop ASE2012 as i cannot install acceleration on this PC as it uses AMD graphics and terrible vsync issues are introduced into FSX that cant be fixed.
April 13, 201214 yr Author Worked out why the texture backup failed....Service pack 2 must be installed for the ASE2012 backup function to work fully without the error message. The texture files missing are not added until SP2 is installed.....this is annoying as the product page for ASE2012 states it is compatible with FSX with either SP1 or SP2. I dont want to install SP2 as it 'breaks' the vsync in the game and gives a distorted wave/ripple which is impossible to lock down with AMD card and drivers. I realise that ASE will technically work with SP1 but i would be nervous about installing new textures when i dont have a full backup. Does anybody know if REX is okay with just SP1 installed?
