April 15, 200422 yr HiCouple of weather-related questionsI've been using real-world weather and find that quite often after 15 mins or so (perhaps when it updates, possibly at certain altitudes) I get a bad fog that doesn't fit with the current weather conditions. I am flying in the UK so overcast is standard stuff but the fog doesn't seem right -- it appears when the weather is Scattered Clouds for example. I don't think its just a reduced visibility -- its not there when I take off, once it appears it goes right to the ground, and the fog can be so bad to make it IFR conditions. My system's a bit slow -- P4 1.7, 512mb, Radeon 9600 but settings are reduced to take account of this.Anyone got any ideas. And another question...Is it worth using the standard METAR reports when using real world weather in FS9 -- is the system accurate/up to date enough. If not -- how do you get a weather report for a planned route within FS9 if there's no ATIS coverage where you want to go.Cheers
April 15, 200422 yr I had this problem with Fs2000 for some reason. It also had sinking cloud syndrome as well. I had a lower end machine and sometimes when I put alot of clouds the visiblity would drop to 0. I don't know why it did. What your your Computer and Video specs?
April 15, 200422 yr I've had this same problem as well. Load up the real world weather for the airport two miles from my house. Everything is good, nice sunny day in the sim, and also outside my window. After once or twice around the pattern a very low visibility fog appears out of nowhere, sometimes enough so for the default ATC to deny me clearance because the airport is now IFR. I've stopped using real world weather a lot because of this. Unfortunately it hasn't happened to me enough to generate any theories as to why it happens.Joe Wagner
April 16, 200422 yr P4 1.7ghz, 512mb ram, Radeon 9600 vid card, Catalyst 4.3. Settings wise (not on my home computer so can't check), medium autogen, 30% 3d clouds, other settings medium-high. Aliasing off.Apart from this, the sim runs fine -- lowest fps around 13 -- but usually around 20. Because the fog doesn't appear all the time I wonder whether its duff real-time weather info being downloaded. Last night I flew VFR Isle of Wight to Gatwick in the Southern UK and the weather was clear (CAVOK) with isolated clouds. No fog, though there was a bit of 'mistyness' around 3000 feet near Gatwick. Quite realistic really but could have been the dreaded fog forming. Anyone got any other thoughts.
