April 14, 201214 yr I installed SlimDrivers, based on a recommendation in another thread. I scanned my system and updated all the recommended drivers. Now I cannot access my internal blu ray drive (Samsung SH-B123A). The system knows the optical drive is there but cannot read from or write to it. I've tried to update the drivers manually but the only software available on the Samsung site is Firmware, which I can't install anyway as the drive can't be accessed. On the device manager, an IDE storage controller is listed with the Bluray drive, and I am assuming it is this driver that is incorrect. I have tried deleting this driver but it of course re-installs again on reboot. I have tried rolling back the driver in SilmDrivers but nothing happened. 1. Am I correct in assuming it is the Storage Controller driver that is at fault? 2. What can I do to rectify my situation? Is there some way of permanently deleting the driver so that W7 goes looking for the right driver on start up? I would be most grateful for any help, as I just about run out of ideas. April 18, 201214 yr Author Hi guys, Just an update. I have had no suggestions on how to fix this problem, not even from the Slimdrivers support forum. In fact, it would seem that I am now locked out of their forum all together. Rather than helping me overcome my problem with their software, they have apparently chosen the easy way out and now simply prevent me from posting there any more. I have been polite and courteous at all times and I have to say this is immoral and unprofessional conduct by the Slimdrivers moderator. I have decided to post this note as a cautionary tale. Use Slimdrivers with the greatest of caution. If something goes wrong you may be cut loose to fend for yourself. In my case I'm left with no way back to a working system other than to format drive C: and re-install W7. Even this may not be possible. April 20, 201214 yr Hi Noel, If Slimdrivers just "updated" your Windows drivers than it is very likely you can do a system restore to get rid of the problem. If you don't know how to do that, just ask here or search the web. If it also updates the firmware on your drive than you might be out of luck since that can't be restored easily, if at all. If you have another PC available you could install the drive there to check whether it still works. Starting Windows in Safe Mode is another way of checking. Ultimately you can re-install Windows to "roll back" the drivers, but that will not solve problems with the firmware. I also recommend to install or update drivers manually. That way you know exactly what has been updated, and to which version. Also, only update drivers when it is needed, I.E. when it solves a problem or adds functionality you need. If something is working properly, it doesn't need new drivers. The problem with these tools is that they install a whole bunch of new stuff on your PC and you'll never know what has been done. I hope things work out OK. April 20, 201214 yr Go to the device manager, properties on the drive. What is the driver version reported there?
