Installing FS2004

Featured Replies

I had been using FS2004 for several months when suddenly when I tried to open it the program froze at the first screen. Thought I had a bad nr4 disk and was able to get another. Still didn't solve problem. Unstalled program and reinstalled-same problem again. Contacted Microsoft techie and went thru all steps including check to seen that my computer met all requirements for program which it did. Unable to get any further help from them. Tried uninstall and reinstall again with same results. Installation was done with antivirus software disabled etc.Any ideas on where I go next ?

How did you uninstall MSFS? Did you just run uninstall, or did you run uninstall and subsequently go in and delete "the leftovers"?Freezes don't happen without a reason--especially sudden ones after months of normal use. You may have to really think hard on what you had done to either MSFS or your system just prior to the freezes happening. Off the top of my head, I know some have resolved this by reinstalling Direct X and/or their graphics drivers...-John

Uninstalled by using FS disk and clicking on uninstall. Beyond that should I do a search and then delete any files that show up after ?Will try a reinstall of Direct X.Budo

At a minimum, you want to search out your Flight Simulator 9 folder and delete it before reinstalling. Also, FS2004 stores some settings in what I label your "user" directory. Best way to find them is to do a search for fs9.cfg... You'll find it stashed away in a folder. If you manually open the folder, you'll find other files related to FS2004. It's not a bad idea to clean out this folder as well. Hopefully the DX reinstall will fix things for you and you won't have to go this far...-John

Tks JohnWent to Microsoft page re: Direct X and it mentioned Direct X 9.0 could not be uninstalled. Is it possible to just reinstall it after downloading right over the original ?Budo

Yes--you may reinstall by just running the DX installer program again...-J

Thanks for helpReinstalled DirectX and also update the NVIDIA MX440 AGPX Driver and now FS is working again !Budo
