How can I switch back to "open with" "unknown program"?

Featured Replies

When examining a .bgl file I selected to open it with notepad, however I accidently selected to "always use this program" as that is the default choice. Now all my .bgl files show up as notepad files, which makes it a little more difficult to distinguish between files. Does anyone know how to set it back to open with an unknown program so that the icon will change back to what it was before? Thanks,Andre

Double-Click "My Computer". Look under Tools, Folder Options--then click the File Types tab. You'll likely have an entry for bgl files in there--just delete it.Also, if you ever want to reassociate a file with some other application, a quick way is to hold your shift key down while right clicking the file--an Open With Option will appear and you can set the file to open with some other type of application. Not useful for bgl's, but perhaps for other types of files such as cfg files that accidentally get opened in the wrong type of application.John

Thank John!Very helpful. However, holding shift while right clicking doesn't bring up an opens with option on my PC. I probably have to enable it somewhere? No biggie. Thanks again,Andre

Glad that helped.... I am also sorry--I should have mentioned you need to select the file first by left clicking once, then apply the shift/right click.... I was tired...long day in the office... :(
