Relocation assistance

Featured Replies

This is something I wanted to do before Alaska comes out, so I'm looking for words of advice about moving the DLC.

Flight itself is installed on my drive E:, but I had used the default settings to install the DLC (drive C:) and have left them there, even after RTM. I want to uninstall the Hawaii scenery and Maule, RV-6 and Mustang(s) and then reinstall them after changing the target directory in the Live thingy.

What should I back up prior to attempting this? I wouldn't worry so much, but during the beta I changed my OS from XP64 to Win7 and it's caused me a ton of problems ever since. I'm pretty sure I'll have more issues, even with what should be a simple task. Seems my Win7 doesn't want to allow menu additions, .LNK files to be made and other obscure issues despite UAC being turned off, running anything and everything as Administrator, Taking Ownership of entire directory structures, etc.

But I'll brave it any way and hope any problems are resolver by the 27th?

There is no need to uninstall the DLC. In fact, you can't. The DLC is simply used directly from the DLC folder and it's not installed into Flight.

Because of this I moved my Flight DLC some time ago to my SSD. First I checked where the DLC was saved using the options in the GFWL software. I made a backup of all the DLC. After that I changed the path to the DLC in the GFWL software to my SSD. The game told me that if I wanted to change that directory, I would have to redownload everything again. I said 'Ok'. After that I copied my backup into the new DLC folder. When I started up Flight it IMMEDIATELY had all the DLC available. This proves the DLC is used directly and it's not installed into Flight after downloading. I also didn't have to redownload it again at all.

Thanks Jeroen, it will be my weekend adventure to move things.

Getting the update installed was more fun with my Win7, but it's done.
