HELP please!! Mousepointer is moving very sluggish after starting FS......

Featured Replies

I have no explanation why my mousepointer gets extremely sluggish as soon as I start FS. After a couple of seconds it gets back to normal and then again moves very sluggish again, which makes it impossible to operate. I am using Logitechs MX700 and latest mousedriver. No program running in the background, also virus scanner deactivated for the session. As soon as I close or minimize FS no problem. Very odd.....Does anyone have a clue what is going on here?Thank you very much for any help!!!Sam

You don't mention the OS you use Sam but you could check in Control Panel under Mouse/Hardware and alter the sample rate to 200. I did have the same problem due to using a 3d pointer and when I returned to the Windows default it was OK

Thank you very much, Shep... got Win XP Pro...I actually do use the default pointer, however, don't know where to alter the sample rate as I use Logitech's mouse software...Sam

I use XP Pro and the sample rate is altered by going to the Windows Control Panel, Mouse, Hardware, Properties, Advanced settings. Also you could tick the Fast Initialization box which will help with erratic movement of the mouse. Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot, Shep....I'd might have to deinstall my logitech software to get access to the default settings of XP Pro.... does "smart move" have bad influence to the pointer behaviour as well?Sam

Don't deinstall your logitech software Sam. I have a PS/2 Compatible MS mouse so "smart move" means nothing to me. If you go into Device Manager then Mice and other pointing devices you should be able to access your particular mouse properties and find the setting you need under Advanced Settings.

If you're using Windows XP, I can tell you that the default Windows XP mouse driver works much more reliably with the Logitech MX-700 and also with the MX-500 than even the latest Logitech Mouseware driver, at least on my system.Using the Mouseware driver I was experiencing occasional unpredictable instances where the mouse pointer would completely freeze right after Windows startup, and it would be necessary to reboot the system. This has never happened using the built-in Windows XP mouse driver. As fas as I can tell all there is no apparent difference in mouse performance between the two drivers, and all mouse buttons and functions seem to work properly with the default Windows XP driver. So just uninstall the Logitech Mouseware, reboot and see what happens.Hope this helps,SandySystem: Intel P4 processor, 3.2 GHz Asus P4P800 motherboard 1 Gb ram NVIDIA GeForce FX5900SE video adapter Cornerstone p1400 monitor Western Digital 120 Gb 7200 rpm hard drive Logitech Cordless MX Duo wireless keyboard Logitech MX-500 mouse (I prefer the corded MX-500 mouse to the MX- 700 that ccomes with the keyboard) Sony DRU-530A DVD-RW drive NEC 282 CD-ROM drive Creative SoundBlaster Audigy2 sound card CH Products Flight Sim Yoke USB Microsoft Windows XP Professional

Thank you very much, Shep and Sandy! Very nice of you guys to look into my issue so carefully!Right! After all I found the mouse settings and fiddled a bit. Deinstalled the logitech driver, but the problem persists. I assume it relies to some memory problem. Maybe I have to check my graphic driver also. As soon as I start FS2k4 I get that sluggish pointer. If I wait a couple of seconds the pointer moves normal - until it gets sluggish again. I am thinking of using a memory optimizer and see if that helps.A bunch of thanks! I let you guys know if I have found a solution.

I promised to be back, if I've solved it....Yes, finally it works again! I tried the optimizer which didn't had any impact. I then switched to Nvidia's previous display driver and... this solved it! I also changed my resolution from 1280x1024 to 1280x960 and increased my 21" monitors frequency to 85MHZ. Let's see if it works stable now. I'm confident!Thank you very much,Sam

Which driver is that?Sandy

Driver 56.64. I actually prefer 1280x1024 and see if that works fine too. What a relief....Sam

Hi SamGlad you found the solution. I have had similar mouse problems and they were never caused by the mouse or driver, but rather some other problem with my system. Changing your video driver was a smart move.David

I also had this mouse problem lately and had installed this new NVidia driver. And I also run 1280-1024 (on a 19 inch CRT). So maybe you have solved my problem too. But: do you experience when running 1280-1024 some deforming of your graphics? For instance, the 737 seems too long in FS9. I know that this resolution stretches my digital photo's in the standard view of windows explorer and even in a freeware viewer like Irfanview. So it would be no surprise that it deforms also in the sim. I would be happy to hear a solution for this. Should I run 1280-960? Or is there a way around?Herrie

Hi HerrieTrue, the recommended resolution for FS is actually 4:3, which means 1280x960, 1024x768, etc, as most software designers are programming in 4:3. However, the difference should be marginal, but may lead to some stretched looking aircraft. As I have a 17" TFT in combination with my 21" CRT, I might have to make a decision. TFT's use a different default resolution due their pixel technic, mostly 1280x1024 up to 19". I will test now if 4:3 with my CRT and 1280x1024 with the TFT will reliably work in dual mode. More important to me was to get rid of that sluggish mouse pointer issue which could be solved by using the previous driver version.Regards, Sam
