Flight Simulator Needles volume 2

Featured Replies

Here is my second "needles" post in the tradition of finding underrated freeware from our vast vault here at AVSIM. (Akin to finding needles in a haystack)In my first needles volume, I mentioned a very beautiful Fokker in Aer Lingus Livery with a plug for "frindly panels".The subject of this needle is water. For many of us, Flight Simulator 2004 was a step backwards. We either did not like the "pea green" textures during overcast conditions, or we didn't get to see sun and moon reflections due to the lack of a DX9 compliant card. There have been many replacement textures posted here, most notably, the wonderful bump mapped textures by Bill Lyons. However, some of us don't have the horsepower to use these wonderful textures, lack a DX9 compliant video card, or simply don't like the FPS hit these wonderful effects can cause on our machines. If you fit into any of the above, these textures are right down your alley.Filename: classic_water_texture.zip License: Freeware Added: 27th October 2003 Downloads: 4733 Author: Carlyle Sharpe Size: 646kb Carlyle, has provided some wonderful sun and moon reflections that do not require a DX9 card and contain textures 1/4 the size of the original FS2004 ones. As a result, you get sun and moon textures that have the look and feel of the FS2002 reflections, and the added benefit of no noticable FPS hit.I use these myself as they provide a nice water effect without going overboard. If you are looking for a good compromise, these are it. Give them a shot, they are easy to install, and are well worth the short download. If you have your own needles, feel free to reply to this post.
