Failed HDD

Featured Replies

Hi

Don't think this is a hardware related issue, but more about a reinstall. I've looked at various old posts, but can't find one that answers this specific issue:

  • New build with an i7-3770 and new HDDs
  • Separate HHD for FSX
  • FSX HDD failed first time I tried to fly
  • Couldn't do a full uninstall as FSX wasn't listed
  • New HHD is now in place and FSX was 'repaired' when I put the discs in, but didn't run.
  • New HDD now reformatted and empty & waiting . . .

The question is: I think I should have cleaned out the C drive of anything FSX related, but I don't know how to do it or what I'm looking for.

Help would be much appreciated. Thanks

John

C:\users\xxxxxx\appdata\roaming\microsoft\FSX ( Only delete the FSX folder not the whole tree)

C:\Documents\Flightsimulator X Files

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX

- Check your start menu for addons, if any, that were installed and remove them.

That should be all FSX places on your OS drive. That i can recall. You may have to clean your registry of FSX entries or it will think its already been installed thus do a repair.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER

Software\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator\10.0

value=AppPath

Here is a link to PMDG explaining your situation, kinda. Steps 1 and 2 assume you have uninstalled from the controll panel, which of course you cannot. That cleans out the registry.

Thanks Rendi

I found the link you gave me after my initial post and looked for all the folders to delete and couldn't find any of them. Turns out (I'm new to Windows 7) that I have been able to uninstall FSX - yep, I know . . . . !

There's just one add on left that I can't remove, says can't find 'initialisation file' which would have been on the failed HDD I suppose.

I'll try a fresh install now.
