June 7, 200421 yr Hi Luigi:I don't believe there is a rule, however, if you are under ATC control they will vector you into your intercept course. Barring that I usually use anywhere from 2.5 to 4 miles from projected runway approach course.You didn't say what type of aircraft you are flying but if it isn't equipped with a ND map projection then insert a waypoint around 15 miles out from the runway approach course, turn base toward this waypoint and set your autopilot to APP take your 60 degree turn and expect to intercept the localizer around 10 to 11 miles out. If you have charts make sure you are low enough to capture the glideslope from underneath.Hope this helps.
