Fs9 crashes all the time

Featured Replies

I'm like desperate...I was flying Dusseldorf to Palma de Mallorca when my first crash happened. An error in 'terrain.dll' occured and FS9 flashed to desktop.I was using many add-on scenery's at that time so I thought maybe it's better to reinstall FS9 totally. When I was uninstalling FS9 I realised it was a good idea to reinstall WINXP.So after a few hours, WINXP and FS9 where installed and everything seemed to act brand new!Wrong, I installed all the German Airports, some Simwings scenery, PMDG 737-NG and the PSS AIRBUS 3XX.I took off from Dusseldorf again and after about 15 mins.. terrain.dll caused trouble. Then I tried again and again, some G3D.DLL error came and I installed FS9 again. This morning, I installed only the PMDG 737-NG and the PSS Airbus 330/340 add-on, the very same error occured.I always fly with Squawkbox host, squawkbox, FBRELAY and AVC.Like I said I'm desperate.. could it be my brand new videocard? it's a ATI RADEON 9800 SE...Please advise! My system specs:AMD 2400+ XP512MB DDR ATI RADEON 9800 SE 128 ASUS A7N8X-X motherboard

Hi, did you also install the mainboard drivers? Try re-installing DX9.0b perhaps... good luck Jaap

Oke I'll try that first, I didn't install the motherboard drivers so I hope this is the problem...I reinstalled fs9 again now only installed PMDG, flew from EHAM to LPPR and once at final on Porto the terrain.dll error occured..!!!Thanks for the tip!

If you did not remove additionally added folders before reinstalling there might still be files there that are causing a problem. I recently had crashes in Spain near LEGE and it was a few badly set AfCad files for an add on France scenery that was causing my crashes. I was getting error messages of all kinds similar to your case, one time it would be a particular dll then another. It never seemed to be the same one again. The only way I know to test AfCad files is with Lee Swordy's AfCad 2. Once set up it is easy as there is a check function that will report any errors, one airport at a time though. I fixed all mine quite quickly in that way. Some add on sceneries place AfCad files in a separate folder to the main scenery, others place them with the scenery. It would be a good idea to go through all your scenery folders to check. Also look in your scenery menu at start up to see if there are any add ons listed there.

Thanks Carlie, I certainly give afcad 2 a try.Although I did reainstalled a totaly new version of FS9 with only PMDG installed..Currently I reinstalled Direct X, the ATI drivers and I updated the BIOS...Flying LEPA - EDDG right now on Vatsim.. hope it works! The strange thing is that I flew Amsterdam - New York last sunday for 8.30 hours long with the very same config without any trouble..

Try unchecking the terrain option in the GPS, weather and map views.Worked for me. Colin

If you are still having problems try this----1:Uninstall FS92:Go to Program files/MS Games and remove the FS9 folder ( which may still be there after the uninstall)3:In Documents and settings remove the FS9 .cfg and the folder containing it4:Remove any saved flights in my Documents.5: Delete any registry entries for MS Games/ FS.6:Reinstall FS97: Try your flight with only default aircraft and scenery installed.8: add things one at a time and test fly thoroughly between each addonDave

Did you confirm it's not the "Seasonal CTD" issue as reported in these fourms? If not, do a search on those words and follow the workaround to see if that makes a difference.

I forgot to mention that my crashes were only happening when I had the GPS window open. This is what eventually led me to suspect the AfCad files.

Oke guys, thanks for all the tips.I worked on it and flew for about 5 hours without any crashes..Maybe it's solved now..I'm going to install the addons again and I've got just one question about that.Once I installed the addon and I start to get those nasty crashes again, can I just delete the whole directory? or can I deselect the scenery in FS9, will that be enough or do I have to reinstall FS9 again because the deinstall of the addon isn't complete? Thanks!

I recommend installing one addon at a time, then test it thoroughly before installing the next. Some sceneries install with an auto installer. The problem with those is that you can never be sure exactly what has been added or where, unless you have a good idea of what is in the folders beforehand. Before deleting a scenery directory you should uninstall it in the scenery set up in the opening menu of FS9, or you will have errors. This does not delete any folders or files, just makes them not be recognised by FS9. Some sceneries have auto uninstallers. I think everything should be taken care of automatically in those cases. You can also temporarily disable scenery in the same menu whenever you want without having to uninstall. I think the main thing is when disabling, check out the list of scenery for all added entries for the scenery, sometimes there is more than one folder (eg. landclass, AfCad etc.) that needs disabling to be fully effective. However, many sceneries are not as complicated as that.

Try installing scenery addons outside FS9- preferably on a seperate drive or partition. It makes things much easier to manage as you can control what goes where etc. much easier.Dave

Oke thanks again, working on it.Since a few weeks the PSS A340 works really fine in 2004.. don't know why it suddenly works great but anyhow, I installed it and it went good.Untill I came back to my computer and the computer rebooted without asking... so that should be a hardware problem I guess.. well I will fly longer on this config, will let know how it went!

  • 2 weeks later...

I don't get it anymore...Yesterday FS9 started to crash again.. so I decided to reinstall Windows, format all drives and install a brand new copy of FS9.So I did and after many hours installing I tried FS9.At rotating point FS9 and CTD occured without any error message..Pff...... all those hours... what could it be? a Hardware problem?
