RAF Upper Heyford

Featured Replies

For several weeks I have been working on a RAF Upper Heyford 1960/70s scenery addon which is now virtually completed.I undertook this at the request of(and with the help of) Steve Mock and Paul Metzner who were there in the late 60s flying Kaman Huskies with the 40 ARRW.Before I upload it to the file library , I would like to get some comments/critisism on it so that I can make any neccessary adjustments or changes. You can download a beta copy at my website-http://daveg4otu.tripod.com/flitetime/Dave

Hi Dave....Allow me to be the first to reply!!Yes, it's very obviously still an early beta, but it's looking good!!There is some dodgy collision detection apparent as I found having taxi'd around to the left and up the main taxi-way past the E3 towards a large cluster of Hangers...."Building Crash"! I was in the center of the taxi-way, and nowhere near any building! Never mind though...it's an interesting project and I like what I see so far.It would be nice if you could do it, to use the main road that seperated the flight line from the civilian/housing side and actually put a cluster of autogen if necessary, buildings to represent the housing area's, and the hospital, BX, and Sky Lanes Bowling Center. I lived in that area for quite a number of years during the 80's and early 90's and spent 6 years working at the BX at Heyford before it closed (I'm at Lakenheath now), and it'd be great to see the whole base area represented :-)It's also about time surely, that someone produced some decent AI F-111's, and a good flyable one too!! I wish I new how to use GMAX...if I did I'd have a go myself!!Anyway...do what you have to do, and iron out those little bugs, and hopefuly get it finished soon...Heyford was a great base, and it's really nice to see somebody trying to recapture it.....Thanks :-)

I don't know what you hit - I've just spent about half an hour driving around the field in the biggest thing I could find ( C-5A Galaxy) and apart from a couple of places on the northwest perimeter where the wingspan was to great to get between the HAS I couldn't find anything to give that effect."It's also about time surely, that someone produced some decent AI F-111's, and a good flyable one too!!"I think a lot of people are waiting for something like this..........I know I am.Thanks for the comments - I'll keep on at it.Dave
