July 3, 200421 yr I can understand why they do it but it does not mean I have to be happy about it. I've just rebuilt my system with a new Mother Board / HD etc.Decided to have a nice test flight with all my addons running only to find that a certain favourite addon needs another license key after the upgrade.OK. This would be all well and good if I could get it by return but I have to mail this developer who then sends me the new key.I mailed 5 hours ago. No key. I think if they insist on using this particular method of protection then developers should be prepared to setup an automated system of key renewal and have you up and flying as soon as possible. It REALLY P##### me off that I have to wait AGAIN!! for something I've payed for already.
July 3, 200421 yr Yeah, the Flight1 and Captain Sim wrappers are automated which is nice.Nothing to say after turning the ...? Hehe.Jim
July 3, 200421 yr The only solution I've found, is to avoid that developer, and forget about the products I've purchased. (Chalk it up to "experience", I guess).Darrell
July 3, 200421 yr >Yeah, the Flight1 and Captain Sim wrappers are automated>which is nice.>>Nothing to say after turning the ...? Hehe.>>Jim>> Going for a beer !Darrel : Got my key now. I just hate waiting. I hate waiting at Bus stops, in que's for sandwitches, traffic jams etc. etc. Guess I just need to be a bit more patcient ! ? Not going to name the product but I would not wish to be without it in my virtual FS world.Cheers
July 4, 200421 yr I needed to re avtivate a flight1 key and I had changed ISP. So I had to use the change email address updater on the flight1 site and it said it would take up to 3 days. Well it took 8. I was not real happy! I did not mind 3 days but 8? Come on!And another company want to know your life story and if you reinstall windows they seem to think you have installed your aircraft onto other PC's and will not reactivate your key! I don't mail them for a re-active key now! I just use a crack! Yes a crack! Its not steeling as I purchased the add-on. Its just Less hassel. I will not buy from them again.
July 4, 200421 yr Seems many companies are forgetting Marketing 101. The "Pleasure Experience" in purchasing a product. Why do you think so many people go to shopping malls? Not only to purchase but enjoy themselves when purchasing. If any vendor makes it more of a hassle for me, the customer, to purchase their product than a pleasant one... I just move on to the next vendor. I then discover a few days later the "need" to must have that product has now dwindled away.
July 4, 200421 yr Time and again, the only person that is hurt or inconvenienced by copy protection is the legitimate user. It stinks that the paying public has to suffer so that the developer can feel a false sense of security. If the developers actually think that any protection that is put in software prevents theft, then they are truly deluding themselves. Unfortunately, the only solution is to avoid these types of developers that go to extremes, which in turn penalizes the legit user.JMHOTim13
July 4, 200421 yr Some of my most enjoyable sim purchases have been with RealAir, FFS, and Eagelsoft. Rob at RealAir always makes me feel welcome with any of my mails to him... and he answers them so quickly that I have to wonder when he sleeps. FFS during the release of the King Air found themselves dealing with extremely heavy demand that crushed their original server, but Fabio and team pressed on seemingly going for endless days tending to customers' needs. And when I recently had problems making my first bizjet buy thru Eaglesoft, Ron and Bill were right there to lend assistance on an otherwise effortless purchase. All these folks are a cut above, and their perspective on customer relations is indeed refreshing. There are still some payware vendors who feel that it's their right to inconvenience the buyer with their anti-piracy methods. I steer any and all who ask me about payware sellers away from those folks. What those sellers don't understand is that the customer is willing to part with their money but has little patience for the additional aggravation, stress, and frustration of a difficult purchase. Those sellers in time will go by the wayside. And good riddance to them. And on the flip side, we the legitimate buyers of these products have a responsibilty to report unauthorized use of their products to them. We must do so in an effort to protect them as well as our own purchases. Good vendors are our partners.Greg
July 5, 200421 yr To be fair flight1 and any developer who uses the flight1 wrapper is very good! Sure I waited 8 days but there still good! If you need a key reactivated it only takes minuets! PMDG is also very good. I would avoid FSD and perfect flight like the plague! Perfect flight add-ons are poor quality and FSD want your life story and 20 emails before they reactivate the key! If they re activate it!
July 5, 200421 yr Just can't agree more that flight1 has the best ecommerce system (their flight1 wrapper). Luckily I've never run into any problem concerning purchasing/installing of FS paywares. Just ran into an overpriced vender once, which I learn not to purchase from them ever again.
July 5, 200421 yr I haven't bought as much payware as some, but I've been very impressed with how efficient and pleasant the experience has been. The companies:Dreamfleet (Flight 1)Bill LyonsPMDGRealairI'd say their service is top notch.BlairCYOW
