crashing FS

Featured Replies

I have downloaded the latest XP critical patches (July 14) an dnow find that my computer is doing strange things!(lol)IE6 is freezing, and worse than that Fs2004 is crashing the program at unexpected moments for no sim related reasons. This has never happened before, and I mean NEVER!Has anyone else noticed unusual things since least critical updates?I did a restore point so can go back, but updates seemed important.

My recent experience was rather the opposite. NAV could not delete a virus that arrived via Outlook Express and after that the computer took a long time to start up. I tried scanning with NAV and also a web based scanner and both found nothing. Did the usual clearing out with AdAware but that did not help this problem. I tried a system restore and whatever date I tried to restore I got a message at the end saying that the restore had not been done. I then remembered I had not updated XP for a while (because I used to have Automatic Updates and disabled it from advice given to help FS9 run better) so I went to the Update site and installed I think at least 6 or maybe more updates. After that I was able to do a system restore and the system has been fine since. In your case I might consider restoring, then try adding each update one by one in date order and testing before installing the next.

Thanks for reply.I had a similar 'virus' through a www site that was hell to get rid off, and I did a restore eventually!Everything was great until the last few days.I shall probably end up taking your advice to restore, but I just spent an hour with Tweak XP, 'tweaking' everything that can be tweaked! So, I shall see what happens. Its amazing the crap you pick up with cable broadband even with addware and popup stoppers and Norton eveything !Just life as we know it nowadays.
