July 25, 200421 yr I need help...I have installed Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 (FS9) on my present computer several times in the past (not that long time ago anyway) with success. But since a week or two ago, it became impossible. Everytime one or another MSGAME cabinet file will fail to extract. Sometimes No. 1, sometimes No. 5, sometimes No. 8 and the installation will quit, leaving no functioning Flight Simulator.I have been trying so many things. I have read the Microsoft Knowlegde Base regarding this issue, and tried every suggestion. I have reinstalled Windows XP. I have done this and that, but nothing helps. I keep getting the message "Setup failed to extract..."I have a complete copy of all the CD's on the harddisk, and I have backup copies as well, but neither works succesfully. Please help me, anyone. I miss my Flight Simulator so much!Nico
July 26, 200421 yr Hi,Just wanted to say I have to agree with Allcott. Sounds like one of your memeory modules has or is going bad. I built a new system a while back. It has two 512 MB's sticks of memory. But I was plauged with errors trying to install Windows XP with the same type of problem you are getting when trying to install Flight Sim. After a little while I came to the conclusion that something was probably wrong with one of my Mushkin memory modules. I downloaded memtest86. Then I pulled out one of my memory modules. Memtest86 ran ok. Pulled out that memory module and put the other one in. Got errors. Fortunately, Mushkin's Main Office is in the same city I live in. I called them up and they told me to come on down. They ran the same test on the memory module and came to the same conclusion. It was a bad module. So they tested a replacement module and it tested ok. Then they gave it to me and sent me on my way. Now my system has worked fine ever since.Regards,Jim
