July 26, 200421 yr I have been flying FS2004 for a long time with no problems. Then I went to fly yesterday and went to takeoff and my trim was very messed up. I tried to fix it but the trim was all the way down and even though I was pressing the up trim button, it wouldn't move. I finally pushed both the up trim button and clicked the mouse on the trim wheel and got it to move but then when I let go it went all the way back down to full down trim. I closed flight sim and started it again. When it starts, I can move my trim around fine. Then after I start the engine and apply throttle to taxi, the trim automatically goes to full down.Anyone know what is going on here? I didn't install any new sceneries or planes or anything at all yesterday so I don't know why it would go crazy all of a sudden. Thanks for the help.
July 26, 200421 yr Well I was flying a plane with no autopilot so I don't think that is it. Just in case, I tried to load a plane with autopilot and it was turned off so I turned it on then off again but still got the same problem whenever I applied the throttle to taxi.
July 26, 200421 yr Sorry if I wasn't clear. It is the problem with the saved flight - NOTHING to do with whether the aircraft has the autopilot or not. Start the sim with the flight that is causing the trouble, switch to an aircraft that has an autopilot. Switch the a/p on then off, then change BACK to the aircraft (NOT the saved flight situation), then save the flight again. That will fix it if you can't bear to be without that flight.Alternatively just delete the flight in its entirety and make a new one with the chosen aircraft.Allcott
July 26, 200421 yr This is really (not) funny- I just ran into exactly the same problem, without any apparent cause. It affects every saved flight I have. The only new file I loaded recently- but I can't imagine how this would cause the problem- was Eric's updated panel for the Carenado T34. If you also loaded that, then perhaps there's a causality here- otherwise its the strangest thing (and I've seen lots of strange things on Windows and FS9). Please let me know if you find the solution! I haven't been able to fly for days because of this trim issue.Best,Joel
July 26, 200421 yr As an alternative thought, have you checked your assignments haven't been crossed up somehow? I recall the problem with CH Yokes where the default setup allocates the rudder to one of the three levers and unles you scrolled the menu window down in the FS menu you wouldn't see it - all you would get as soon as you pushed everything forward for t/o was a veering airplane.Has the trim assignment been corrupted? July 27, 200421 yr The trim seems to be fine with the yoke as I can trim the plane in either direction with the trim button on my flight yoke. It is just once the plane is started, and I push the throttle forward to taxi, is where I lose my elevator trim. Also, at this stage, I can still try to trim it using the trib button but if I give it a click of trim down, as soon as I let go of the button, the trim goes all the way back up.Joel, I don't have the Carenado T34 so can't be that. I will try some experiments tonight with switching aircraft like Alcott mentioned. I have not tried switching aircraft before the problem occurs. I did however switch aircraft once my trim got stuck and no matter what aircraft I loaded, they all had the stuck trim.Ryan
July 28, 200421 yr Well I have tried everything and nothing worked. I tried selecting a saved flight. I tried switching aircraft. I tried changing my default flight. Nothing worked. Always after I apply throttle the trim goes to full down and stays there. Anyone else have any suggestions? This is frustrating cause I can not fly at all. Maybe I will have to reinstall the whole sim. gah!
July 28, 200421 yr Let medknow, I'm travelling at the moment but was pulling my hair out before I left...Best,Joel
July 28, 200421 yr "Anyone else have any suggestions?"I don't see where anybody here has checked the device calibration in Windows (I assume that's where one calibrates the CH yoke). If the calibration outside the sim is good then the problem could very well be in the FS9.cfg. Backing up the existing file and letting the sim build a new one might help.Greg
July 28, 200421 yr Well I finally figured it out. I have a game pad controller installed on my system as well as my flight yoke and pedals. For some reason there were duplicate settings for trim in my control assignments in FS. The trim was on my yoke but it appeared to also be on my gamepad. This is odd cause I haven't used the game pad in a long time and I haven't touched the control setting in FS for a long time either so this was a strange, random problem. Anyway, I just deleted the trim assignments for the game pad and now my yoke trim is back to normal. Thanks to all for the help.Ryan
