Nosewheel touchdown smoke

Featured Replies

Hi there. Does anyone happen to know how to either eliminate the touchdown smoke from the nosewheel only, or at least make it smaller? This might apply to also making tailwheel smoke smaller on GA taildraggers.I've looked in the touchdown effects files, but don't know what to change there.I've done a search, but only found threads dealing with all three main gear at once. Thanks!Mike F.

I'm doing a lot of guesswork and assumptions here but I would base any attempts to do this myself on these assumptions. I've tried to look at my files and it seems that the fx touchdown file covers all wheels. I noticed that there are 4 sections in the file labelled 0, 1, 2 and 3 and I think I saw 3 subgroups under each label. It could be that each section is for each of up to 4 wheels ie left, right, front, rear (not necessarily in that order). I haven't had time to look to see if this is covered by one of the SDK's but it would probably be worthwhile to check. Failing that (or not) I would back up the original file before attempting to change anything, then just experiment with different settings to see what happens to each wheel. You might find the slew command useful in spot view to see the effects. Raise the plane about a foot above ground then come out of slew mode to let the plane drop to the ground. It might be difficult to get it right everytime but it has to be easier than making a flight and landing every time just to see any changes. What does seem certain is that any change to the file will affect all aircraft that specifies the file in the relevent aircraft.cfg file. The worst that can happen is that you waste some time on it and use the back up to put everything back how it was. I don't suppose this helps too much but no-one else seems to know either. On the other hand someone might see my posting and think they know better! I have noticed this happen on a few occasions and can lead to some sort of positive result for the original poster. Good luck!
