Terrain.dll error

Featured Replies

Hello guys,How unfortunate i start posting on Avsim forums with a problem...but im getting quite tired of it and i cant get it sorted without help. What do i get:A standard error window from FS9 notifying me that it encountered an error and needs to close. The module the message points to is terrain.dll. Sometimes i get the "Report this error" window and sometimes not. When it started:I installed the fokker 50 panel a while ago and all hell broke loose. I knew it had problems but i tried to get them fixed applying all the fixes listed on the fokker50.com. Apparetlly they dindt work and FS9 kept kicking me back to desktop with the usual "terrain.dll" error.I stoped using F50 panel and i moved to a different aircraft. But the problem still occured. What did i do to stop it crashing:-Reinstalled FS9 (clean) and started with new fs9.cfg-Unistalled uneeded scenery-Unistalled PAI aircraft and associated bgl files-Unistalled uneeded modules-Backed up default and uneeded aircraft in a different folderWhen the problem occurs:Somehow i think i get the message when i operate the GPS (FS9 default). I twice tried to load a flightplan through FS9 interface (on flight creation screen) and i got the error. So i think it might be related to the flightplan and GPS. Im using Super Flight Planner for flightplan creation but i dint have problems with it in the past so its highly unlikely its causing this problem. My system configuration:P4 2.24 with 512 DDRAMEpox Mainboard (latest drivers)Geforce FX5600 videocard (latest drivers and DX9b)Soundblaster Live! 5.1 sounddcard (latest drivers)Swap size: 1536 MB (fixed size) on secondary partition*Note: FS9 runs smooth at 25 fps So please help me to solve this problem and get me back in the skies. Hints are always helpful. Thanks inadvanceLukeSAS984Scandinavian Virtual Airlines

I am pretty sure that the terrain.dll error is linked to scenery and or AFCAD problems.I remeber having a terrain.dll issue way back with FS2002, and it was indeed a "dodgy" scenery. This is also apparent because you say it happens when you open the GPS, this too has been linked with dodgy AFCAD files.I suggest you disable ALL addon scenery and AFCAD files, and see if the problem still persists, if it doesnt then you have some dodgy files somewhereCheersDan.

Thnaks Dan! Problem solved! Indeed I made a clean reinstall of FS9 but shortlly after i installed my old scenery poackacge so thats what it caused the problems. Thanks againLuke SAS984Scandinavian Virtual Airlines

Just out of curiousity what was the scenery that was causing the problem?, might be of help to others who are having issuesCheersDan.

Those are the sceneries i disabled. Ill try to enable each one at a time and see if i still get that error. Unfortunatelly i dont have the filenames but if you want i can look them up. This is what i found in scenery.cfg.Furthermore i found a quick way to test if the error is present: in FS9 default flightplanner, clicking edit after loading a flightplan sometimes causes FS9 to display the "terrain.dll error" and sometimes clicking a few times on "display terrain shading" in the same window. Also some of the scenery below are for FS2002 only and as far as i know i was using EKCH and LOWW scenery without any afcad files[Area.038]Title=Addon SceneryLocal=Addon SceneryLayer=38Active=TRUERequired=FALSERemote=[Area.039]Title=Balkans2004Local=Addon SceneryBalkans2004Remote=Active=TRUERequired=FALSELayer=39[Area.040]Title=Copenhagen LandclassLocal=Addon SceneryCopenhagen LandclassRemote=Active=TRUERequired=FALSELayer=40[Area.041]Title=Copenhagen SceneryLocal=Addon SceneryCopenhagen SceneryRemote=Active=TRUERequired=FALSELayer=41[Area.042]Title=EBBR2002Local=Addon SceneryEBBR2002Remote=Active=TRUERequired=FALSELayer=42[Area.043]Title=EKCH_AmagerLocal=Addon SceneryEKCH_AmagerRemote=Active=TRUERequired=FALSELayer=43[Area.044]Title=EKCH_DynLocal=Addon SceneryEKCH_DynRemote=Active=TRUERequired=FALSELayer=44[Area.045]Title=EKCH_KastrupLocal=Addon SceneryEKCH_KastrupRemote=Active=TRUERequired=FALSELayer=45[Area.046]Title=EKCH_SaltholmLocal=Addon SceneryEKCH_SaltholmRemote=Active=TRUERequired=FALSELayer=46[Area.047]Title=France2004Local=Addon SceneryFrance2004Remote=Active=TRUERequired=FALSELayer=47[Area.048]Title=Germany2004Local=Addon SceneryGermany2004Remote=Active=TRUERequired=FALSELayer=48[Area.049]Title=Greece2004Local=Addon SceneryGreece2004Remote=Active=TRUERequired=FALSELayer=49[Area.050]Title=Italy2004Local=Addon SceneryItaly2004Remote=Active=TRUERequired=FALSELayer=50[Area.051]Title=MiddleEastLocal=Addon SceneryMiddleEastRemote=Active=TRUERequired=FALSELayer=51[Area.052]Title=PfslowwLocal=Addon SceneryPfslowwRemote=Active=TRUERequired=FALSELayer=52[Area.053]Title=RomaniaLocal=Addon SceneryRomaniaRemote=Active=TRUERequired=FALSELayer=53[Area.054]Title=Spain2004Local=Addon ScenerySpain2004Remote=Active=TRUERequired=FALSELayer=54[Area.055]Title=statueoflibertyLocal=Addon ScenerystatueoflibertyRemote=Active=TRUERequired=FALSELayer=55[Area.056]Title=TIMEZONESLocal=Addon SceneryTIMEZONESRemote=Active=TRUERequired=FALSELayer=56[Area.057]Title=UK2004Local=Addon SceneryUK2004Remote=Active=TRUERequired=FALSELayer=57LukeSAS984Scandinavian Virtual Airlines

Interesting, I can see some parallels between some sceneries I was having issues with in 2002.These being the EBBR scenery and some french scenery also.CheersDan.
