Hello, I'm new to AVSIM so Hi again :D. On a serious note, I have heard that gamespy servers are no longer active for FSX. I'm assuming this is true, as I no longer see the "connecting" message. #2: I've been recently trying to connect to FSMP (server over LAN), is this server down and inactive? If it isn't could someone please help; I have great internet connection and I was able to connect to regular multiplayer in the past. Might be a port problem? Thank you very much!!!

Hi everyone, I'm also new on the AVSIM forums. I am part of a great FSX Multiplayer Community called "Boston Virtual ATC" as an Adminstrator, aka BVATC.

As you may know, the GameSpy-powered

component of Microsoft Flight Simulator X (FSX) multiplayer was decommissioned on

December 6, 2012.] It is now official that GameSpy will no longer be supporting the FSX

title and that users of FSX will need to turn elsewhere to connect with each other. Now

that we no longer have GameSpy, we all need to act together to save our hobby and

ensure multiplayer remains alive through Direct Connect.

Over the past six years, many communities have relied on GameSpy to host multiplayer

sessions with FSX and allow their users to connect with one another. Boston Virtual ATC

(BVA), a 3500-member community that relied on GameSpy’s technology in addition to

FSX’s Direct Connect functionality, is one such community affected by this loss. To help

FSX users seeking alternative options learn about the various communities that provide

realistic operations and immersive ATC, BVA has sponsored a website to explain the

situation, post relevant news, and describe the servers and communities that remain

available.

Microsoft CANCELLED FSX's gamespy functionality, arounf Dec 6th, 2012, instructing Glu Mobility to "Permanently" shut down Glu's FSX Gamespy servers.

FSX can still HOST, and players can still connect to hosted FSX Protocol Multiplayer session, by using IP Direct Connect. (Refered to as "Lan Network" in FSX)

The FS-MP FSX Multiplayer server has always support both Gamespy & Direct Connect, since the day FSX was first released. The FS-MP server is up and running, as usual, 24/7.

Now that Gamespy functionality is no longer available, like all other FSX Multiplayer protocol servers, the only remaining connection method is Lan Direct Connect.

==========

So why can't you now connect via a Direct Connect IP connection ?

(a.) Most likely reason is not entering the correct IP.

(b.) Server is not running. ( very rare for FS-MP, that has greater than 99% uptime)

----------------------

There could also be a Network Misconfiguration (at your end), that is stopping Direct Connect.

Can you connect to any other FSX Host session, via Direct Connect. ?

If you cannot, it is most likely a local Network Configuration issue at your end.

When you formerly connected via Gamespy, the Gamespy connect was intelligent, and found ways around some of the network configuration issues you might have had.

Now, that you are forced to use Direct Connect, those network configuration issues might be causing you not to be able to connect to ANY FSX sessions via Direct Connect.
