update air files

Featured Replies

Is there a utility or program that updates the AIR file for MSFS aircraft? There are a few FS2000 and FS2002 aircraft that I would like to take for a spin in FS9.

Isn't there one called AirEdit? Believed I used that to edit out AI aircraft from being shown in my aircraft directory... but of course Idon't see it in my "utility" folder. Try a search on that.

Your request sounds as though you are looking for something that will do the conversion automatically. I don't think there is such a thing that will do this, but my favourite editor is Aircraft Airfile Manager. This is where I found everything I needed: http://perso.wanadoo.fr/hsors/FS_Soft/fsairfile.htmlLook for AAM. You will also see AirEd there, apparently many people's favourite, and this might be because is is kept more up to date, but I get on fine with AAM as I find it easier to work with and it shows more useful figures. Unless you already know exactly what you are doing with airfiles, a search that will prove useful is the name Ron Freimuth. You should find useful information by searching the forums here at AVSIM. Read everything you can find about what he has said about FS9. You could learn a lot from what he says if you don't know of him. Google could be a good place to search his name too.

All good advice but let me add:http://www.avhistory.org/scripts/MegaBBS/f...w.asp?forumid=5A lot of excellent information on airfiles is found there. Sadly, the old forums seem to be no more, clicking on the link returns: "CGI Error The specified CGI application misbehaved by not returning a complete set of HTTP headers." A shame, as there was even more good stuff archived there. But, so it goes. And don't forget AFSD, a really brilliant free utility that allows you to look behind the scenes at what your MSFS aircraft is doing. This is a 'must have', and as equally important as any of the editing utilities. Found here under "Personal software":http://perso.wanadoo.fr/hsors/FS_Soft/index.html >>>>Look for AAM. Douglas, "You can update AAM yourself by installing the latest AirEd .ini file from Herves site. Just rename it to 'AAM' and copy it to your Aircraft Airfile Manager directory." Thank you for that information and for the other links. I had no idea that the AirEd.ini could be used for AAM. It just shows that when knowledge is shared it can benefit everyone with the feedback. I'm going to look soon to see what can be done with AFSD.
