January 14, 201313 yr Hi, I am a pilot and have an airline interview next month in a B737-800 SIM. I can not afford to go out and buy some 737 SIM time at around $500-700 an hour so here I am hoping to prep my interview using computer based sim. Please help me out. What software and hardware do I buy? Do I just go to Amazon.com and order me the newest microsoft sim and a yoke/joy stick and go from there? I have Apple macpro. Do I need to buy a PC to use the SIM? For reference I have zero hours or experience in a JET or any other JET based sim. All my flight hours are in a Cessnas. Thank you!!!
January 14, 201313 yr Welcome! I would run FSX on a PC as you will get better results. One of the BEST 737 out there is from PMDG. Check it out! http://www.precisionmanuals.com/pages/product/ngx.html
January 14, 201313 yr FSX is extremely hard on frames, and a Mac, which doesn't run any game, won't run FSX either. You'll need to spend at least 800$ if you want a decent simulator PC. Never buy a pre-assembled PC, but build one yourself or let someone build it for you, pre-assembled PC's are just a rip-off. Don't buy a laptop either. Just for the record, the default planes of FSX are quite bad and not that realistic, still, they give a global view into what it's like to fly a 737. If you want a real 737 that's extremely realistic and pretty much no different from the real thing, buy the 737NGX from PMDG. If you install it, it will be installed into FSX as an add-on plane. Be aware, this plane makes FSX even harder on framerates. Luckily, there are several ways to tweak FSX so you can nearly double the FPS you get by default, but when you get to that point, come back later and just ask! Arjen Vandervelde
