water takeoff problems in Gruman Goose HD Redux

I am flying the HD Redux of the default Grumman Goose out of Victoria Harbor in the Vic+ scenery upgrade. Taxiing at max throttle with the yoke (actually logitec 3D Extreme joystick) pulled all the way back. With aircraft realism settings set to maximum it doesn't taxi for long before I get a SPLASH and the flight resets. I have tried many combinations of throttle and yoke with the same result. I have tried it with and without the wingtip floats lowered. If I reduce the realism to medium then it takes off with ease. Is this an artifact of this plane's config file, or is there something I am missing in the takeoff procedure?
