February 14, 201313 yr I'd like to solicit some advice (this is my first post on AVSIM!). I've got a rudimentary SIMPIT, and am considering some potential hardware upgrades. Below is a link to a youtube video showing my current setup: Here are the specs to my PC: Intel Core i7 930 OC’d to 4GHz ASUS P6X58D-E 12GB RAM (2GB x 6 in triple channel) PNY Geforce 9800 GT (x2) WIN 7 64-bit A few notes: - I have the option in FSX of running in DirectX 10 Preview Mode, but it won't work. Once I start the flight, my projector screens remain blank, and my primary monitor flashes with constantly maximizing/minimizing windows. Not sure why. - FSX will not run in compatibility mode, for either XP SP3 or Vista SP2... the system just locks up and I have to reboot it. - The projectors are all used, and each is a different manufacturer. You can probably tell, but the center and left screens are twice as bright as the right screen. The right screen is also natively SVGA, while the other two are XGA. I can still run it in full screen mode, but the zooms are a little bit off. - I have made many of the recommended changes to the .cfg file that are out there. I also installed NVIDIA Inspector and set it per PMDG’s recommended settings. So here are my questions… My views are all currently separate windows in full screen mode. However, I have considered switching to either TH2G or NVIDIA Surround. Any thoughts? Will I still be able to get the wrap-around effect that I get my using virtual cockpit views, looking to the side? I’m also concerned about being able to keep my “instrument panel” screen… I know NVIDIA Surround lets you have an auxiliary display, and am not sure I you can use it in the same application as the surround display. I have considered getting new video cards. My existing, albeit older card work pretty well, but when I really bog down the machine with higher slider settings or aftermarket aircraft (VRX Superbug or PMDG aircraft) I end up with invisible aircraft, missing textures, and the like. When I turn the sliders down or use default a/c, those problems go away. But – in looking at new cards, since I need two to run my 4 screens, I’m concerned about getting more than 1GB of VRAM per video card, since two cards with 2GB of VRAM could bog down the memory scheduler (from what I’ve read). I was considering the 1GB NVIDIA 650 GTX or 650i GTX as candidate cards to replace what I have now… any thoughts? I have also considered getting an SSD. I have a 1TB hard drive with everything on it, and am hoping to get FSX on its own dedicated drive. I frequently have super slow load times, and think this might help. So… any thoughts? Thanks to everyone that’s regularly posting on the many forums that are out there… even though I am now just starting to participate, they were an outstanding resource in getting me this far!... Would appreciate anything you might be able to offer.
