flight from newfoundland

Featured Replies

just finished a flight from gander int. in new foundland across the water to llulissat {BGJN} airfield or whatever it is, more of concrete strip with no buildings or hangers that i saw BUT a place to land in the middle of nowhere. gander int. was a nice airport, on a bluff, and sort of like landing on an aircraft carrier. very scenic. anyway i flew the learjet 45 on over to greenland at 20,000ft. weather was pretty good. got interesting coming into greenland though and if it wasn't for the gps i'd have BIG problems. didn't do much in the way of good flight planning on this flight. had it been bad weather with alot of clouds or at night i wouldn't have made the landing. there's something to be said for flight planning! the airfield from what i saw is just a concrete V on the lower side of a mountain slope. alot of twisting and turning to make it. i should have gone around and used the other runway but had that "get down" fever so i tried to wing it in, barely. i think there's a drop off at the end of the runway into the water not to mention mountain sides all around, high and low. will have to find some charts for my next leg. i'm going around the world an will have to look at my world atlas to see where to go next. either another place in greenland or straight on to england depending on how far things are. i saw some screenshots in that forum from somewhere in the middle east like pakistan or one of those countries and it really looked beautiful from the airport it was taken from. a big vast flat land with mountains in the background and alot of sun. can't wait. william

Well, well,I am also doing an around the world trip and flew from Vagar on the Faroer islands over to Keflavik, Iceland and then to Narsarsuaq, Greenland and finally Goose Bay, Newfoundland. I am now at the US eastcoast heading for Elisabeth City, KECG where I have a friend (in real life). I did all this in a Cessna 310 (Dreamfleet) in a special non turbo-charged version.I will make my way down to the Carribean, and then wherever the winds take me.Alex

hi alex, yea that's how i'm going, where the wind takes me. you're coming the way i'm going. that's pretty good flying a turbo prop the whole way. i had planned on using only one aircraft but changed my mind but i may fly one more than the others. it's pretty baren up this way! i'm also thinking of taking another trip after this, up around the "artic circle community", skim the russian northern coast, on around northern alaska and the islands and coast of north america and sweden. it's sort of a little world of it's own up there. a bit off the beaten path. have fun. william
