September 24, 200421 yr Hi,my textures reload so frequently in FS2004 ,while flying i can see some squares go blank and reload again in secs.that happens usually when changing my view , happens even for default AI aircrafts, thus makes my fps drops to 3 or 5 for a sec then return back to its normal.i.eI have the best driver for my videocard 56.72 NVIDIA FORCEWARE i normaly get 30fps and drops to 20 with heavy clouds i never had this problem in FS2002I dont have any money right now to upgrade i was just asking if there any tweaks i can do??????????everything else works fine and smoothly.my system specs:P4 1.7GHZ with 400bus256mb RDRAMGeforce fx5200 128MB40GB WESTERN Harddrive
September 24, 200421 yr What is your memory usage for FS?You can check this in the task manager whilst FS is running.I think that it could be to do with the amount of memory you have, my FS uses, normally, around 500mb, so with you only having 256 the "reload" you are encountering could be the transition of virtual memory.Does the hard drive "trash" around when this reload occurs?.Also are you letting the OS control the page file, or do you have it setup by yourself?Dan
September 24, 200421 yr Turn your sliders back a wee bit or get yourself another 256MB RAM (minimum).FS2004 is a whole new animal! Also, create a 'scenery texture refresh' short cut key in the key assignments options menu. I use 'ctrl, x' and it helps in those dense areas. Best RegardsBoone,[email protected]"Flying a plane is no different from riding a bicycle. September 24, 200421 yr For memory usage :I tried twice the 1st result was 179,932k while 2nd was 143,576kmy virtual memory is set to 700-1000 by mei dont know whats the meaning of page file so i think i never setup a thing like that for 256MB RDRAM increase:I live in egypt and was told that this kind of RAMS will not be in stores again, that means that i have to change my motherboard as a whole the thing that i cant afford right now!!!Does overclocking have anything to do with this problem , i never tried to overclock my videocard, i even dont know how to do it or the values that i have to change it to.i.e i use rivatuner as a tweakerAnyway thanks for your interest
September 24, 200421 yr Hi,Firstly, let windows manage your page file (virtual memory), there are many different schools of thought on this one, BUT, XP's memory handling is way better than any previous windows.Yes, RDRAM can be quite difficult to find nowadays, BUT, you could really do with more. You don't need to OC your card for FS, so, you don't really need rivatuner either.Make sure that ALL unneeded programs / services are not running, use Ken's great little app for this, FSAutoStartDoes the hard drive thrash around when this happens?Dan.
September 24, 200421 yr Hi Dan,give a look at my rig spec's at the bottom; the only missing info is that my page file is fixed a 4 GB (MAX=MIN) :-coolNow, can you please explain why my hard drive trash around from time to time running FS9? Maybe 1 GB ram isn't enough???And now, while i'm posting, why XP should use 194 MB of paging file? Thanks in advance for helpingLuigi ;-)http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/92140.jpg
September 24, 200421 yr Hi,my hard drive doesnt trash when this occurs i m using FS speedup its the same as FS AUTOSTART Anyway it seems like a hardware problem THANKS very much for ur care
September 24, 200421 yr Hey Luigi,Try removing your page file settings and let windows manage it for you, see if that helps.I really don't think there is a need to use your own settings with XP.Also, why would you need such a large page file?, whilst running HUGE CAD and CAM apps at work, I very, very rarely see the page usage hit 1.5GB, let alone 4GBDan.
September 24, 200421 yr HiI don't see any solution for you but more RAM. On my system, WinXP and the really essential services needed to run FS9 use 138MB of RAM. FS9 uses another 400MB, and that's just sitting on the ground at KSEA. Could you order from overseas? I see there is plenty of RDRAM available cheaply at www.ebay.com . By the way, virtual memory and the page file are the same thing. Hope this helps.David
September 24, 200421 yr LuigiIt's normal for XP to use around 190MB of page file, so you have no problem there. Try Dan's suggestion of letting XP manage the page file and see if that helps. There is also a tweek that reduces unnecessary page file usage by programs but unfortunately I forget how it's done. Maybe you could find out in one of the hardware forums.David
September 24, 200421 yr get an extra 256mb ram, overclock your p4 to 2ghz and overclock your graphicscard as far as possible and you should run the default fs2004 quite smoothly except of realworld weather and dense traffic. More ram will have the greatest impact on your system. 512Mb is the absolute minimum to run winxp and fs2004 smoothly (without the harddisk reloading data into your ram).just my two cents:-cool Claudio
September 25, 200421 yr Thank you Dan, thank you David for suggestions. My page file settings are back to default XP.cheersLuigi ;-)
