Faulty Bgl

Featured Replies

I am trying to track down a "bad" bgl in my scenery library that is giving rise to an area of elevated Lakes and airfields near to the Adirondack regional airport (KSLK). I believe this may be a legacy of some addon USA mesh installed a good while ago and subsequently deleted - this mesh made by Rob Gainer, appeared in various places and had faults giving rise to odd effects often thousands of miles away. I thought I had deleted it all but by chance I discovered this small are of odd terrain effects around KSLK- now trying to find the bgl responsible. It would help me to know a few things.......1: Can someone who has just done a fresh install - look in their scenery library and tell me what the default number of sceneries in there is.2: If anyone else has had this effect at or near KSLK can they confirm that it was down to the scenery I mention above- or if not then what did cause it?I would like to fix this if I can - merely because it's there although this is not an area in which I normally fly.Dave

bump...........

Dave,I'm pretty sure there are 38 entries by default, including the Addon Sceneryscenery folder. I backed up my scenery.cfg as scenery_LOADED.cfg and made my active scenery.cfg the first 37 entries only - taking care to exclude the Addon Scenery entry - as that's easier than double clicking scores of times to remove all my addon sceneries and meshes (NOTE: I had not reset any priorities inside these lowest, original 37). I fired up FS9 and created a flight at KSLK. The three sizeable lakes I saw on my flight to Lake Placid fit well with the surrounding terrain as did both airports.I suggest you search your entire Flight Simulator folder (as well as anywhere you've located addons outside of it) for files named rg*.bgl, as I recall that most, if not all, of his USA mesh began with this two-letter prefix. I dimly recall a NYC area mesh or scenery addon of some kind by the same author that raised some issues and do not recall its filename, unfortunately, so try not to rule out the possibility of the above search catching all of the files by Mr. Gainer. If this search produces nothing, you could go to the trouble of going back to a default scenery setup by backing up and modifying your scenery.cfg as I did and then adding back files individually or in manageable groups to see when the problem returns.Hope this helps,Kevin

Thanks Kevin I posted this query in the Mesh forum after it seemed to get zero answers here and got pretty much the same advice re the RG files-so far no luck - the scenery bgls seem OK and none of his show up ( I may owe him an apology). The problem seems to be the bgl dw120n45.bgl - cuts a nice neat slice between 44N and 45N. I'll probably try to extract it from the CD tomorrow and replace it. I've already uninstalled and reinstalled pretty well all addon scenery with no effect. My guess is that this bgl has somehow got corrupted.Dave

I hope you can get things sorted. I'm subscribed to both threads - interested to see how it turns out.Kevin
