Desert Colours

Featured Replies

Just replicated a flight I undertook for real this weekend from Mauritius to UK. Interestingly, all the desert in north Africa and Libya is green in FS9. Nothing like the real world which is various shades of red/orange/yellow. Strangely, the FS9 desert in USA in Arizona is more like the ral thing and is various shades of brown. Does anyone know of any testures to make deserts more realistic and especially, to get rid of the green in North Africa?KFD

Jim,Thanks - downloaded it but a bit stuck on how to load it into the sim - does it go into the Africa element of the scenerydb? Or does it just go into the scenery? And do I need to do anything else?ThanksKev

also recommend 2004_wood_desert.zip if you dont have it already. once you get teh africa landclass issue solved, these desert textures are much better than the default textures.

Just to second what aigean says about those replacement textures 2004_wood_desert.zip ....much better than default in my opinion.Ismetm

Bump... I have the same question.

Thanks but can't find 2004_wood_desert.zip in the Avsim File library or over on FlightSim.comKev

Hi.Oddly enough, I just got asked the exact same question by email. Copy'n'paste:Create a new folder (anywhere you like), then another inside this onecalled "Scenery". Put the BGL into that. Then, load up FS2004 and go to the scenery database screen. Add a new area, and then point it at the folder you just created. Click OK and you'll get a message saying you need to restart FS.When you load FS next, it should appear automatically. It should look different in most places; if you want to check, go to one of the Rift Valley lakes such as Nakuru and see if there are white textures; if so, it's been installed OK. The white, BTW, is either salt or flamingo cr*p, depending on the lake :)... and here's a link to those textures. I didn't know about them so I'll give them a go tonight.Cheers,Jim Keir

Thanks Jim,Colours are a big improvement on defaults. Kev
