October 7, 200421 yr Hi, When I click on my FS2004 desktop icon, it takes about 1 1/2 to 2 minutes before the splash screen comes up and it starts loading. Once its loaded I have no problems, everythings fine. Any ideas?RegardsMike SchwartzIntel P4 2GHZ640mb sdramxp pro sp1radeon 9200 256mb video card
October 7, 200421 yr From personal experience, one possibility is AI aircraft. I recently added a lot of AI aircraft, which I had never done before. Most of them installed as being "visible" to FS, meaning they appeared in the "select aircraft" window. After a while I noticed it took FS several minutes (!) to load, because it had to load all those aircraft (there were lots).Changing the airfiles to make them "unflyable" kept them from having to be loaded at startup, and greatly reduced my startup time.I'm sure others will suggest other possibilities.
October 8, 200421 yr One thing that could cause a delay in loading is your anti virus program. When you start a program your anti virus may be scanning the files as they are being loaded into memory and since FS9 is a pretty big program it will cause a delay as it is being scanned. You can prevent this by diabling your A/V program before starting FS9. There are other possible causes too but this is the most common cause. One other thing to check quickly is how many programs and files are active in your memory, if there are a lot Windows has to work to clear up memory space and cache these files so it is better to keep all of that extra garbage from loading when your computer starts up.
