October 31, 200421 yr Hi,I hope someone can help me here. I have been running FS9 for several months without any problems. Recently, the program crashes pretty much every time. After 1+ hour, the menu bar disappears. Somewhat later (usually when switching views) the program freezes. The last major updates I did before this all started was to install the FS9.1 patch and install ActiveSky2004.5. I uninstalled everything and installed only the major components yesterday. While flying today (offline, no ServInfo, no SquawkBox running, with ActiveSky4.5 being the only other program running) from KPHX to KTUS (PMDG B737-700), the same thing happened. Here is the installation I am using:10/29/04 Installed FS910/29/04 Installed FS9.1 update10/29/04 Installed ActiveSky200410/29/04 Installed ActiveSky2004.5 update10/29/04 Installed FSUIPC3.4010/29/04 Installed PMDG B737NG 600/700 Version 1.30 10/29/04 Installed Squawkbox V2.310/29/04 Installed SBRelay 1.210/29/04 Installed HostSB10/29/04 Installed ServInfo2.0210/29/04 Installed FSBuild210/29/04 Installed FSBuild2 update ("fsb2updates_101404")10/29/04 Installed FSBuild2 NavData ("fsb2_0410_navdata")My computer config is AMD FX-53, ASUS A8V motherboard, 1GB RAM, ATI AX800XT (ASUS) with latest drivers.Anyone any idea what causes this? Thanks for your helpDirk
October 31, 200421 yr Possibly the cause may be hardware related rather than software.Install and run MBM5 (Motherboard Monitor) and check both your temperatures and voltages. Voltages need to be with 5% of the nominal for +3.3,+5, +12V. Temperatures should stabilize at a " reasonable "figure - if the temps keep rising after say 30/40 mins then this may be the cause. MBM can produce a text log that you can examine after a lockup to see if any sudden variation occurred. It may be worthwhile opening the case and checking the various fans and heatsinks for accumulations of dust - it can build up on such as the CPU HSF very rapidly and cause large rises in temp - leading to instability. Check also that the Graphics card fan is clean and running properly. Some CPUs are very susceptible to excess heat- back in FS2002 days I suffered the same problem on a AMD Xp2000/K7S5A board which turned out in that case to be inadequate cooling - once fixed the problem went away - but - if I didn't keep the system clean it would re-occur.Good luckDave
October 31, 200421 yr Dave,Thanks for your message. I don't believe that this is causing it. Fans etc. look fine and I have ASUS Control running (fan speed, temp, voltage) with all params being ok. Also, I can run other games without any problems for hours.Dirk
October 31, 200421 yr Check in the modules folder for the FSUI.DLL file.and in the backup folder for it.Joe W.
October 31, 200421 yr Joe,Checked FSUI.DLL. There is one in Modules (v9.1.0.40901)and one in Backup (must be the original FS9 one, v9.0.30612).Any other ideas?Dirk
November 1, 200421 yr Try clicking on a flight in the flights folder. I had a major messup after I installed the patch and it went straight to CTD. I had to uninstall the patch manually and one of the things I had a problem with was the menu. The menu is controlled by the FSUI.dll file.Joe W.
