November 20, 200421 yr >On August 16th, 2004 remarkably, the twin diesel engine DA42 Twin Star was flown from London, Ontario, Canada to Porto, Portugal, Europe with only one stop, in St. John's Newfoundland, Canada. The leg from London to St.John's (1,300 nm / 2,407 km), took 7
November 20, 200421 yr This would make an exciting MSFS project, that's for certain. The aircraft gets better mileage than most mid-sized cars...-John
November 20, 200421 yr I dont suppose you would get a cheap flight to the USA for $200 ;-)and they are getting over 500fpm climb at grosse on one engine.I might yet go on my round the world trip for real one day ;-)Peter
November 20, 200421 yr Looks like a great ittle plane. I'd be a buyer if that was modeled for MSFS.Alex
November 20, 200421 yr The single-engined DA40 CDI recently set a Lands End to John`O`Groats record and used just 42 quid of fuel for the full 4.5 hour flight at 80 percent power for the whole flight, excluding t/o and climb. And that was setting a SPEED record, not a fuel-sipping gentle cruise.`Diesels` are the future for piston props. Does the FS engine allow for the correct modelling of a Jet A1 fuelled piston aircraft?Allcott
November 20, 200421 yr Glad to see diesels getting into avaition more, I have always driven diesel cars, and now wouldn't even dream of getting a petrol one.I did infact look into making a twinstar whilst deciding what plane to make, I couldnt find any 3-view, or performance specs, maybe there is some about now?Dan.

November 20, 200421 yr DouglasThis little twin also has a FADEC engine system and I also believe one lever per engine which also controls prop.Elite the well known IFR trainer sim company has been commisioned to build a training sim device for the aircraft which should be available on CD.This aircraft and its full glass cockpit should be a challenge to any MSFS developer. This is the future for GA as this aircraft will beat car fuel costs especially here in Europe.Peter
