December 23, 200421 yr I have tried everything from a different video card to all the settings. Can ANYONE tell me why there is a straight line in the sky in FS9. I have been plagued with this on two seperate machines. It has to be a video setting. Please help. Please see attched screenshots. Thankshttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/101525.gifhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/101526.gif
December 23, 200421 yr Have you applied any sky texture updates recently? Also, are you running at X32 color depth in your display settings, or X16?-John
December 23, 200421 yr I'd try to post a daytime shot then--may be easier to determine what the line is. Also remember that any AI aircraft flying in the flight levels will leave a contrail, but I can't tell from the shot if that's what I'm seeing.
December 23, 200421 yr Posting some daytime shots now. It's like a weird glass pane that moves throught the sky as you pivot your viewpoint inside or outside. Sometimes, when you pivot just right you can tell there's more clouds behind this weird line, but its like part of the cloud is invisible. I know it sounds crazy. But I can't fix it. stanby for daytime screens.....
December 23, 200421 yr If it only happens when cirrus clouds are present, then it may be related to your cirrus cloud textures.First, make sure your cloud settings are 100 pct. 3-d. I don't use any of the "imposter" clouds for my cloudscapes. The cirrus cloud textures are unique--unlike other cloud textures, if you made one almost solid, you would see "squares" in the sky divided by lines spaced about 20-30 miles apart. Now, if you have a cloud texture which has been replaced by another and that other cloud texture wasn't done well, you could get very visible lines in the cirrus cloud textures.Try to clear all your weather, and manually set up a layer of cirrus at around FL 350 or so. Make sure your visibility upper limit exceeds the highest deck of clouds as well for the test--I've seen the upper limit do odd things to the sky. See if you still have the line. BTW, when posting shots you can post at up to 800x600. It's better to post in .jpg vs. .gif format, and you'll avoid the limit in file size most likely.-John
December 23, 200421 yr I did just what you said, and the "lines" went away and the cirrus looked normal. I use ActiveSky 2004 2.5 for my Wx gen. I just re-installed fs 9 and I did upgrade some texture, but I'm not sure if I changed any cloud textures. I think you've almost fixed my problem. Do you think it could just be my upper visiblity settings either in Active Sky or FS? Thanks sooo much for getting me on the right track. this has plagued me for a LONG time.
