First experience in Flight Sim

Featured Replies

Hi all,My soon to be Father-in-law had his first experience of Flight Sim today. I'm lucky to have a yoke, pedals, CH Throttle and console for my GoFlight, so it's a fairly intimidating set up to a newbie. I demonstrated a circuit to him, and invited him to have a go. Tom is a very intelligent, unflusterable man, but he was so absorbed he was shaking, and so overwhelmed, forgot left from right! I think he really enjoyed it.His father was a bomb aimer on Halifax's in World War II, and to this end Tom has asked me to get hold of a Halifax so that he can at least have some impression of the plane his dad served on. All I can find is the payware Alphasim one. Does anyone know of a freeware one? If not, I don't mind buying the Alphasim one, but it's probably only going to get used once or twice. Can anyone who has it give me an impression of the quality of it?Cheers,Gareth Evans

Take a look here:http://www.combatfs.com/index.php?loc=down...nfo&FileID=3091This is a model for CFS2. I've test flown it in FS9 and it seems to fly fairly well but needs a little work as described below. Once installed there needs to be a few adjustments to the aircraft.cfg for FS9 (don't know about for other sims). Also it doesn't come with a panel but if I find one I'll post another message in this thread. You could use the W key for the mini panel for now.The sound.cfg points to a plane I don't have, but strangely, the sound works though there are some crackling noises at times on my system. You might want to change the folder that this file references to. In the fltsim.0 section copy and paste these lines between the texture line and the description line (you can amend them as you see fit):kb_checklists=kb_reference=atc_id=DYUatc_airline=atc_flight_number=010ui_manufacturer=Handley Pageui_type="Halifax BII Srs. 1A"ui_variation="Charleys Aunt"In the contact points section copy and paste these lines to replace the existing first three lines:point.0=1, -32.00, 0.00, -5.75, 1600, 0, 0.90, 75.0, 0.20, 2.5, 0.80, 7.50, 9.50, 0point.1=1, 2.27, -18.50, -8.75, 2200, 1, 2.00, 0.0, 0.90, 2.5, 0.80, 5.5, 5.50, 2point.2=1, 2.27, 18.50, -8.75, 2200, 2, 2.00, 0.0, 0.90, 2.5, 0.80, 7.5, 9.50, 3Below that, copy and paste these lines to replace the existing lines:static_pitch = 4.1 //degrees (pitch when loaded on ground)static_cg_height= 7.8 //(feet) altitude of CG when at rest (altitude when loaded on ground)

Now I also found more:http://www.simnetwork.com/listing.php?cat=300When the page has loaded type halifax in the search and download everything you want except the one at the bottom which is the same as the one I found earlier. At least a couple of these have panels but I haven't tested any of these files yet.

Perfect! Thank you.
