fs freezing - corrupt file? your thoughts please

Featured Replies

hi all,I recently posted in the hardware part of this forum regarding fs9 freezing randomly. the only remedy was to do a hard reset on the pc - not so good.I had recently installed a BFG Tech GeForce 6600GT overclocked card and a new 400Watt psu.after much messing about on forums and various websites, i could find no reason why this should be happening. my pc is more than capable of running this card and fs9. it runs my other games fine e.g. FarCry.My last straw was to uninstall everything flight sim related. I also cleaned my hd using some fantastic free programs that delete broken links, empty folders etc.I reinstalled fs9 and so far so good. i am finally running it with the display settings i want as well as "heavy weather" and it runs at a constant 25 fps. very content now.anyway, the point of all this rambling on is...can fs9 become clogged or corrupt from installing too many add ons?I wont list them all but basically, loads of planes, mainly payware - captain sim, realair sims, fsd, just flight, wings of power.scenery - all 5 vols of british airports, fs terrain, traffic 2004.i was using some utilities like fs autostart.it seems to me that somewhere in my fs9 directory was some file causing the freezing.I found a post on another forum where a similar problem had been reported. the suggested solution was to delete the previous flight file in my docs/fs files. - no joy.i would be very interested in your thoughts on this.i'm over the moon that its now working, i'd just love to know what the problem actually was.cheers.

I think the answer is in the second line of your question:"BFG Tech GeForce 6600GT overclocked card" . Key word being overclocked. You are showing symptons of a card OC'd that can't handle it. Go back to its true specs and see if you still hav ethe problems.
