What Is the "Thumbs" File?

Featured Replies

I've noticed an additional file in the aircraft folders in FS9.I didn't have this "Thumbs" in FS2K2. Clicking its properties, I see it's a "data base file."Anyone know what this is, what it does, why is it needed????What if some of my AI or Flyable aircraft don't have a "Thumbs"folder? Will the lack of a "Thumbs" file create a problem or CTD?Thanks for any info. This is part of my current effort to seek the source of CTDs that have been plaguing my enjoyment.Rick (KMKE; 49F today. It's something that Microsoft Windows XP creates when you view an image inside a directory, or turn Thumbnail view on. It's safe to delete as it's just a database of thumbnails for the images in a directory. You can leave it or delete it... no biggie.

The Thumbs.db file is created by Windows Explorer when you view a folder's contents in Thumbnail view. It has nothing to do with Flight Simulator. You can safely delete these files. You may have at some stage viewed some of your aircraft folders with Windows Explorer and it may have defaulted to Thumbnail view. At least that's what happens on my system sometimes, usually if there is a graphics file in the folder and Windows determines that thumbnail view might be the most appropriate view to use.RegardsAdrian
