February 7, 200521 yr Could someone explain the difference to me between the "MD-80" and the "Super 80?" I always though that perhaps the Super 80 was actually just the MD-82 but I don't know. I've always wondered why American Airlines calls them Super 80's.Thanks,Tim
February 7, 200521 yr There is no difference. When originally conceived the aircraft was called DC-9-80 by Douglas. This was soon turned into DC-9 Super 80 (aka DC-9 for the 1980s...) by their marketing department. When McDonnell purchased Douglas the type name was changed into MD-80.
