February 21, 200521 yr Hi all, i apologise if i am posting in the wrong area. I have recently installed Flight Simulator 2004 with no problems in about 20 minutes. I have inserted Disc 4, as instructed and the disc starts to play. It shows the screen with the three planes and the name of the game. It then shows me the menu for about half a second before returning to my desktop. I am unable to access the menu. Does anybody have any suggestions?Thanxs in advanceCpt. Leung
February 21, 200521 yr Captain:I did a search and found a thread (see below) of someone having a similar problem. Some good info there that could possibly solve your problem.http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...ing_type=searchGood luck.
February 21, 200521 yr I hope I'm hearing you right. After you installed FS9 you inserted Disc 4 in your CD/DVD player (as required my Microsoft) and Autorun started and brought up a menu then closed (or disappeared). If I'm correct and have interpreted your question correctly, then I suggest you simply leave the CD 4 in your DVD/CD disk player then double-click on the Microsoft Flight Simulator icon on your desktop. This will start the game. For some reason Autorun does not work on my system either when I insert Disk4. But you need Disk4 in your tray for the game to operate correctly. Make sure the disk is clean. Hope this helps and hope you enjoy Flight Simming.Jim
February 22, 200521 yr Hi and thanxs for your help. lamont, thanxs for finding that thread. I have read it, however that seems to be a problem with DirectX, but i have DirectX 9.0c, which is sufficient enough to run FS2004.firehawk44, Autoplay does not work in my computer either, but when i double click the FS2004 icon, i see the screen with the DC-3 and then the game menu, for about one second before the computer returns me to my desktop. Should i try re-installing the game?Anymore suggestions will be greatly appreciatedThanxs again,Cpt. Leung
February 22, 200521 yr Aye Captain:Here are a couple of more links from Microsoft support that are probably more in line with what you are experiencing. Give it a shot and good luck again.http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;228985http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;837195Note, when the page opens manuall type in the :en-us info to get to the correct page.
February 24, 200521 yr Hi lamontThanxs very much! Those pages have really helped me out. I have read a few of the pages and will try the solutions when i get home. Once again, thank you Cpt. Leung
February 24, 200521 yr Hi evry1, just like to say thanxs for the help, i can know play the game and i must say it is very good. There is only one problem. This happens when i click the "Getting Started" option. When i click this option, it suddenly quits the game and then i cannot get back on the game, even after quitting and trying again. Is this the same problem as before? Or is it a separate issue?Thanxs, Cpt. Leung
February 24, 200521 yr Haven't ran across that one before. Let me check out a few things and I'll get back to you.
February 25, 200521 yr That really does sound like an incomplete or corrupt install. Did you do a FULL installation of FS to your hard drive, or did you accept the option for a limited installation..?Almost all of us have a full installation, and it might be an idea to compare file sizes of the FSWeb folder, whcih contains the Getting Started files. Mine is 198mb.Allcott
February 25, 200521 yr Alcott has a good point, my FSWEB is also 198mb. At this point it would also be helpful to know what your system specs are.
February 25, 200521 yr allcott, i selected the "Complete" installation when installing the game. My FSWeb folder shows 198MB as well.
February 26, 200521 yr If you are running Windows XP, might I suggest ending all background programs through MSCONFIG. An alternative would be to get Ken Salter's FSAutoStart utility. It can be found in the AVSIM's libraries or on his website, http://www.kensalter.com
