Mission Aware Technologies, Digital Earth Data and FS Dreamscapes Join Forces to Provide Extremely Realistic Photoscenery and 3D Terrain Modeling for Microsoft Flight Simulator X and Lockheed Martin Prepar3d

Mission Aware Technologies' Ultimate VFR photoscenery, terrain, vegetation, lighting and 3D object data takes Flight Simulator X and Prepar3d scenery to a new level

HONOLULU & AUSTRALIA (June 30, 2014): Mission Aware Technologies, a world leader in high resolution terrain mapping for flight simulation and motion pictures, today announced an agreement with Digital Earth Data and FS Dreamscapes that will see the continuation of the Ultimate VFR photoscenery series. Mission Aware Technologies has taken over FS Dreamscapes and it's associated intellectual property, and will continue the Ultimate VFR photoscenery series under it's label.

Mission Aware Technologies is currently modeling the United States with highly accurate, professionally image enhanced, one-meter aerial imagery data for Microsoft Flight Simulator X and Lockheed Martin Prepar3d. The new business operation brings highly detailed terrain models for the United States called “Ultimate VFR” containing high-definition and ultra-definition photoscenery, water mapping, vegetation, buildings, night lighting, audio, effects and 3D elements at a level of detail that has not been achieved in photoscenery until now. The Ultimate VFR series is built upon aerial imagery and terrain data collected as part of the National Aerial Imaging Program (NAIP), administered by the United States Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) through the Aerial Photography Field Office (APFO) ortho-photography program. The National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP) acquires aerial imagery during the agricultural growing seasons in the continental U.S. This "leaf-on" imagery is used as a base layer for Ultimate VFR's photoscenery products and is a canvas for both Mission Aware Technologies and other flight simulator scenery developers to build upon. With high quality digital imagery from 2011 to 2013 and a horizontal accuracy of six-meters or better, the data will provide flight simulator users with a uniquely realistic flying experience.

Ultimate VFR doesn't just stop at basic photoscenery however. The technology provides professional cinema-grade aerial imagery which has been optimized for both crystal clear optics and performance optimized rendering in Flight Simulator X and Prepar3d. The initial release provides high definition water bodies including lakes, rivers, streams and dams, accurate vegetation forest mapping and large-scale autogen building maps. Ultimate VFR will receive regular free updates and enhancements which will add further enhancements such as night lighting and many other scenery enhancements.

“Mission Aware Technologies has done an outstanding job creating a product that provides the most realistic flying experience possible for Microsoft Flight Simulator X and Prepar3d users,” commented Dean Mountford, owner of Digital Earth Data. “Taking our data and using it to enhance flight simulators in the aerospace, film and gaming industries is an amazing use of our data.”

“We are thrilled to incorporate Digital Earth Data's USA wide imagery and vector data in our Microsoft Flight Simulator X and Lockheed Martin Prepar3d terrain databases,” said Dean Mountford, Mission Aware Technologies Owner. “The terrain detail we’re able to achieve on such a large scale is unprecedented,” he continued. “For the user, it will be like looking out the window of an actual aircraft in flight.”

Mission Aware Technologies has released “Ultimate VFR Utah 2.0” and “Ultimate VFR Guam 2.0” today and will be quickly followed by Arizona and New Mexico. Data for the remainder of the contiguous United States will be available in 2014-2015. Mission Aware Technologies’ Ultimate VFR products are featured on the company’s website at www.ultimatevfr.com and soon through distributors worldwide.

About Dean Mountford

Dean is a licensed pilot and grew up around aviation since birth. He is the son of a Boeing 727-277 and 767-277 Flight Engineer and from an early age was exposed to Level-D Boeing simulators at Ansett Airlines in Australia.

Dean is also a professional film maker with over 20 years experience in Film and Television production on major motion pictures and television shows such as Flipper, Beastmaster, The Lost World and several other movies. In his professional film career Dean has developed advanced skills in image color correction and enhancement which allows him to develop advanced terrain database models which are superior in image quality, color and accuracy than what is currently available.

A user of Flight Simulator since Sublogic's version 1 over 30 years ago, Dean has an intimate knowledge of the simulation platform that few people have. Dean was also on the beta team for Microsoft Flight Simulator X and was part of the Design Advisory Board for the Microsoft Flight Simulator 11 which Microsoft unfortunately cancelled when they shut down the ACES team.

For the last 8 years Dean has been developing his skills with Geospatial Software that allows him to convert raw aerial imagery from the U.S. National Agriculture Imaging Program (NAIP) and convert it for use as a finished product to enhance Lockheed Martin Prepar3d, Microsoft Flight Simulator X and Microsoft ESP. He has also developed software scripts and programs to develop these databases with the click of a button through automation.

As a private pilot, Dean places a high value on flight simulator terrain databases being as real as it gets. Flying in a simulator that emulates the earth's terrain as close as possible to the real world means that licensed pilots are able to practice real world maneuvers and navigation exercises with an accurate frame of reference within the simulator. Such accuracy allows pilots to become better trained, can save lives and help with air crash investigations.
