Multiplayer Problem

Featured Replies

My FS2004 will not connect to multiplayer or the MS gaming zone. When I try to connect it freezes, the page file usage climbs to 2.0GB and the game crashes. If I stop AVG Anti-virus and ZoneAlarm it still crashes the same way.I have a new Velocity Micro computor AMD 3400+ 1024RAM and Radeon 850X card .DXDIAG says I have a DirectPlay error 0x80138185 failure at step 9(creating session).I can't download a new DirectX 9.0c it keeps saying all components are installed when I run the runtime file from DirectX site. What can I do? Thanks -James

Man, Good luck I really have no idea what in the world that could be. I hope you can get some support from where your cpu came from. By the way when you connect to the internet in other applications do you recive any other error or strang messages. Take care.Mark.

Thanks for the reply Mark.No messages or errors with browser or email.I will try some other games to see if multiplayer is working on them. James

I had the same problem. This is most likely related to UPnP services in your Windows XP SP2/DirectX 9.0c setup. So just disable the SSDP Discovery service if your configuration has it on automatic or manual and restart. Alternatively, if you use a router and have UPnP enabled, disable it in the router. But just disabling SSDP did it for me.To test if you are OK without running MSFS, use the DirectX Diagnostic Tool and go to the network tab. Click on Test DirectPlay and run that test per instructions. It should not fail to create a session if your setup is OK.

To disable a service go to the Start menu and click on Run...Type services.msc and click OK.Find SSDP line, click on it with the right mouse button and click on properties. Look for startup type and select disabled. Then you can click on Stop.If this service was already disabled, then there's something else in your networking setup. Disable all firewalls, including the Windows firewall to see if the problem goes away. If you are connecting to the internet through a router, there are other things to check for.In general, you should be thoroughly familiar with [a href=http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;823630]this Microsoft article[/a] to make sure your firewalls and routers are set correctly.

Orlando, That was the deal for me, the router that is. I ended up with the CS from the router company, changed a bunch of things and all has been well since. Thanks also for the article to refered.Mark.
