May 12, 200521 yr Anyone else having this problem??If i use only stratus clouds, framerates are good. But the moment when there are some cumulus clouds, its a slideshow:(I've tried using those different hi-fps cloud sets lying around, but it still is a hog.I know use FE and still the cumulus are bothering my FPS.Help is much appreciated!!!!
May 12, 200521 yr Your experience is by no means unique. Even with a high end system, cumulus clouds can cause massive drops in fps. The choices are:1. Use smaller texture files and accept the lower quality. I stopped doing this after installing FE because the frame rates had improved a little and I wanted to enjoy the quality that FE brings to FS9.1.2. Be selective about what combinations of scenery, autogen and weather you use. By this I mean avoiding the combination of detailed airports and extensive cumulus cloud coverage. Crank the visibility back to get ILS conditions instead of increasing cloud coverage. Choose scenery that does not impact much on fps, like mesh and landclass rather than drawn objects. If you must get detailed scenery choose carefully. Some, like Flight Scenery's St Malo and Rhode Island have minimal impact. Disable the default autogen file (e.g. by re-naming it) to take some load off your system. Sure you lose some eye candy but in heavy cloud it won't be noticible. Be selective about what weather themes you use. Some multilayered add-on themes may look good but have a lot more impact than simpler, default themes like, say, 'building storms'. Any other suggestions, guys?Cheers,N. 11th Gen i9-11900K @ 3.5GHz | nVidia GeForce RTX 3080 | Corsair 64 GB RAM | Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB | Asus 27" RoG G-Sync Track IR5 | Thrustmaster Warthog | CH Products Pedals
May 12, 200521 yr Cloud draw distance--every ten miles you add more than doubles the area where clouds have to be drawn. Reduce the draw distance, and it may help quite a bit.-John
